An overwhelming majority of people "Trey Fan Club" are simply saying its too early to make definitive statements about his future. I mean seriously. Who are you fighting with? Trey doesnt have a cult fanbase on this board. Most people just want him to be given a chance before he is labeled.
Here is a definitive future statement, his contract is up after next season. He will enter his year 3 as a backup. I think that alone, that he's in year 3 of 4, and we invested 3 ones for a backup, means this is a bust.
I think the trade up and selection have been a bust, but I wouldn't call Trey a bust at this point. Both can be true.
what the team tried to achieve with the trade up and selection, which was a young cheap QB playing and developing, has mainly passed. We've got essentially nothing for that entire move and that isn't what you expect for that kind of trade and high of a draft selection. You want guys who are stars in the league in the top 5 and produce for you on the rookie contract.
but I wouldn't call Trey a bust, as a player, right now. He hasn't been able to play enough to know that. Need to see him go through a season or two.
for example, i think selecting Alex smith at one was a bust. We never really got what you'd expect out of a #1 overall pick qb, but Alex smith could still play in the league. So the selection, and what you expect to get from it, was a bust. But I wouldn't say Alex smith himself was a bust. He was a quality player in this league, eventually.
it's two different things to me.
1) does the player meet your expectations for where you selected them.
2) can the guys play at a certain level in this league to be serviceable
