If true shanahan and Lynch must not be allowed to ever evaluate a qb again.
Throwing 3 firsts out of the window and giving up on the player without ever seeing him in a rythm of games. Wow

Here is a definitive future statement, his contract is up after next season. He will enter his year 3 as a backup. I think that alone, that he's in year 3 of 4, and we invested 3 ones for a backup, means this is a bust.
And I think its beyond stupid to label anyone a bust before they have had an opportunity to prove it one way or the other.
3 years is the opportunity. You either play your way on the field or you don't.
So Aaron Rodgers was a bust in Green Bay? He didnt get on the field in his first 3 years.

Sam Darnold clearly outplayed Trey, so this is not a surprising new at all. Not sure why many people in this forum refusing to connect all the dots.

I don't think I agree about Brock. I think Purdy does have this ability. IDK about Sam though.
The comment is absolutely insane. It's parody level*

Steve Young just said "Trey will never be an elite thrower of the football" on Eisen just now
1) Please share the reasons given,....if any? Or is it just an attention grabber, given the age we live in?
2) I think we can all agree he's not going to be Steve Young, Drew Brees, or Tom Brady. (Edit: and even then, we'd just be guessing, because he's inexperienced)
But is Lamar Jackson an elite throw of the football? Was Steve McNair? Rich Gannon? Because they all have MVP trophies anyway.
I love Steve but if I'm honest with myself,...he's just a mouthpiece these days. I'll take his input right after games have been played and he's sharing what he observed.
Jerry Rice is the greatest WR ever but he's another one where I'll skip over most of his input if I'm looking for analysis.
How many people that actually know football need to say it, before it sinks in with the Trey fan club?
Taking 300 snaps since high school, playing in a mid level high school program, playing one year in college against random competition in a random conference in a non-pro style offense, then taking a year off and then declaring for the draft does not set one up for success.
He was way more raw than even the 49ers thought he would be, then he has been injury prone, and he is way behind. He does not even have the elite physical traits that many dreamed he would have, he is not accurate, not quick or elusive, he regularly gets caught by defensive lineman at the line of scrimmage. He does not have touch or accuracy, all he has is a strong arm, which means nothing in the NFL without touch and accuracy. He is never going to be elite, he may be good with lots more reps, but we have other QBs that are better and the 49ers are not a developmental league.
Time to live in reality.
An overwhelming majority of people "Trey Fan Club" are simply saying its too early to make definitive statements about his future. I mean seriously. Who are you fighting with? Trey doesnt have a cult fanbase on this board. Most people just want him to be given a chance before he is labeled.
I am disagreeing with the people that say he needs playing time or needs to be given a chance.
Does he need time or does he need reps, which is it? It has been 3 years. Prior to that, Trey did not prepare himself in college, and came in clearly more raw than the 49ers expected him to be. He has not developed as they thought, and he has been injury prone. Clearly, he has not shown the coaches what they need to see in practice. And yet, many want to see Trey as the #2 QB, which he is clearly not, and some even want him as QB1, so he can "get more reps" so we can see if he develops or not. Yet, there are many on this thread who still say that Trey "has a higher ceiling" than even Brock, if we just give the ball over to Trey to see what he can do, because Trey hasn't been given the opportunity or the chance to develop into the high ceiling, elite QB that he is deep down inside, that no one except his fans can see.
Based on what? Again, the 49ers are not a developmental league. We are a team running for the Super Bowl, and Trey's midlevel, raw talent is taking up a spot on the roster. He's been given plenty of chances, and it's time to move on for the good of both the 49ers and Trey.
No one wants this. Stop it.
