why on earth would they publicly demote the guy then seek a trade. seems personal imo

Maybe they got a trade offer first and calling him the #3 makes it more likely for other teams to call? I have no idea, I'm just spitballing.

I here ya. I don't see how this is beneficial to anyone at the moment.

Not surprised about Darnold getting QB2, but very surprised they're giving up completely on Lance now. What exactly is their plan for next year if Darnold doesn't come back?

I wouldn't say they're giving up on him. They may still keep him.

It doesn't seem like it, but I guess we'll see.

Was very wrong on the idea that he wouldn't get traded this year. It is what it is. I just hope we know what we're doing.

I get the feeling we really want that roster spot for someone else. And perhaps they're willing to eat the contract for the few extra million to do things with Bosa or something, IDK.

I don't see any reason for the team to make these moves and announcements at this point unless there's already a possible trade in the works.

I wonder if Trey requested a trade?

Possible if you find out you are QB#3 after being QB#1 the previous year.

I said earlier this off season that if he is traded, it'll be at the end of camp.

i got roasted for saying I wouldn't surprised if he was traded a month ago.
Trey probally asked for a trade which I don't blame him for.

I can see the Vikings giving him the #2 job and letting him know he will be the starter next season when Kirk leaves. Other teams are the Commanders The Bucs where he can actually start this season.

The piss poor mishandling of this situation, is absolutely ridiculous. I feel bad for the kid. This FO and coaching staff has now literally given themselves this year or bust. They're gonna be gone sooner rather than later and KS will always have the tag that he couldn't get the job done when it mattered.

Yeah I'm very surprised they are trading him. I figured number 2 just incase Brock gets hurt....because as we know that can happen. He got screwed by this regime.

Yeah, I'll be following him and rooting for him. I think it's Atlanta.

same. i think it'll be the AFC tho.
I've always had this suspicion that Trey wasn't Kyle's pick but was talked into it by the organization. I don't care what he says in public. He wanted Mac Jones. Either way, it was going to be a disaster. I don't think drafting Trey or coveting Mac Jones was the disaster, but rather, the trade up itself in such an unusual year was the overarching mistake.

They got lucky because BCB bailed out the organization.

how is Cohnhead going to spin this one? I can see it now "Trey purposely looked bad in camp and preseason so he could be the scout team QB for the season to gain valuable reps."

Stuff like this is just garbage.

The guy never did anything wrong, I want him to be traded too, as this isn't his team and he can't realistically re-claim a role he lost, but to say F him. Why?

More like, best of luck. I do think everyone involved is better off if Trey is suiting up elsewhere.

I know you are new or on your burner account but go back a few years when everyone was calling me out and getting personal for saying he was going to be a bust. Eat crow now motha f**kas

Throwing 3 firsts out of the window and giving up on the player without ever seeing him in a rythm of games. Wow

I wonder if they see and know things, you know...being around the players, coaching players, that give the information that might not be public. Wonder if that information will shape the decisions they make regarding the roster.
I wonder if trading him will have a lot to do with the salary cap, since we are over it this year.

we safe $5.5M this year and next, right?

Would explain why he is not on the Practice field.
The only scenario that makes any sense to me after kyle did not sound like he will announce QB2 any time soon and today Rapoport breaking the news of Darnold QB2, followed by lance not being out there for the training session:
They must have got an offer they want to take BEFORE they decided to announce Darnold as QB2.

Cant think of any other scenario in which Lance is not on the Field for Practice.
