Kyle is the one who is choosing these QB's. The QB and the HC will always be tied together.

Yah just like when Mike and Kyle Shanahan drafted RG3??

Jed York isn't that weirdo in Washington.

I can imagine seeing kyle on the sideline screaming when he takes off for a 40 yard TD lol.

guess we have to face it, kyle doesn't want a QB like that.

Yeah. How many times in three years did Trey pull this off?

Trey isn't elusive and os kind slow. Darnold is a better at evading defenders while running
so why is TL not practicing today? three possibilities come to mind:

1) he is injured
2) keeping him out because of a pending trade
3) TL is refusing to practice because of how events are unfolding

I agree but I'm just making a point.
This stinks but i guess the writing is on the wall. From everything we heard there wasnt much of a difference between Lance and Darnold in camp so what would be the point in keeping Lance if Brock is your #1. Might as welll do good by both parties and try and trade him to a team he has a legit shot at competing for #1. Plus it would help our cap situation.

I think Trey is a starter in this league but he fell victim to unusual circumstances here. I do believe if Brock wasn't Brock, Trey would be our starting QB.

This is what I think happened. Keep in mind, this is just my tinfoil hat theory. I'm just connecting the dots to everything that happened during the draft process.

Kyle wanted Mac Jones. Everyone and their Mom knew it. There were multiple reports that Adam Peters and other people in the front office loved Trey Lance. The fanbase was going ape s**t at the thought of drafting Mac Jones. The backlash was deafening. The ownership saw this and probably told Kyle to reconsider drafting Mac Jones. The Yorks coupled with Peters and others in the front office talked Kyle into being open minded about Trey Lance. Kyle always talks about Trey as a person. He probably really liked his character, which is super important to him. He then conceded to Peters and the rest on his ability as a player.

I'd buy it. Mac Jones was another Cousins/Ryan "stay in the framework of the offense" type. Always made the most sense.

Had they just stood pat, they could have taken him and no one would have complained. Once they traded up then it had to be a big boom type pick.

Yes, Shanahan was forced into nothing. He was convinced, against his judgement, and I think a big part of it was Lynch actually, based on the post-draft interview. EDIT: Lynch loves those high character guys. Probably he's the reason we took Solomon Thomas too.

I don't think this is salary cap based, I think Trey ended up in Kyles dog house like many players before and they've decided to cut loose Trey and move on.

now if we do keep him the benefit of this is that Trey will be the scout team QB and will get a plethora of reps each week working against the starting defense.

If you're right we will see peters or lynch bounce next year.

I would guess he could have been incentivized by ownership. Our fans were absolutely melting down pre draft with the prospect of taking Mac Jones. It was loud on social media. Jed's act on draft day let you know they noticed.

That would be as sinister as it gets IMO. No way they 'forced' the pick on Kyle. We'd know already.

it would have to be Jed, only ownership could have forced that.

Kyle said Trey was much more raw then they expected, and was much harder to develop then they expected....that they would never take a player like that again. It is as close to calling the pick a mistake as we will likely ever get from the franchise. Most importantly, it seemed earnest, like Kyle signed off on that draft choice.

How would Trey end up in the dog house? You think maybe he whined about not getting reps or something?

This. Timing of these announcements makes it pretty obvious, and Lance's absence at practice makes me think things will happen pretty quickly.

The problem with assuming this comes from anyone other than the 49ers or Trey Lance's agent is it doesn't help anybody else.

If you're a team that might be open to trading for Trey, that's something you want to keep private. You don't want to bring others into the market.

Well I fully didn't expect this, after what happened last year. Maybe they need his money to pay Bosa.

I think it's that and they want backup QBs they can trust out there to run the offense if needed. He looked non functional, in preseason for the most part. In year 3 of 4. I know he had injuries, but he should also have 3 years of mental reps, in addition to a lot of actual reps, gearing up to be QB1 all last offseason for instance.

Allen is not better than Lance dude.

I didn't say that, but I'll say it now, if they needed to win a game tomorrow, I think they would start Allen. I think he would give a better chance to win a football game tomorrow. Just my opinion. But it really, it's not about Allen. It's about that contract, not working as QB3.

I would say that's not correct. But if it's about the contract, where's the salary cap gurus? When does cap rollover happen? If they're hoping for that I can see it, but there's no more splash free agents out there.

The contract helps more for 2024. We wouldn't want it on the books for 2024, and we can't cut the contract. Have to trade. If he's QB3, they are probably betting the calculus won't change a ton by Spring. So why wait until then to do the trade? If they are interested in doing right by TL, better to get a clean start elsewhere, than be buried on our chart as not even an active QB, as emergency QB. They also, yes, may want Allen as QB3, and you would have to free that up by moving TL.

Trey lance.

Just like how we thought that Jimmy was still going to be the same after he tore his knee. Point being is players either play the same, or they don't and we don't know until the bullets start flying..Practice is practice...if he starts getting rocked in the pocket, you best believe he'll start thinking about his injury and how he can protect himself which is exactly where the downfall of Jimmy began.
