This. We likely pulled him off the field.
I guess he will always have the DEN preseason come from behind moment. Can you believe I was debating even this AM, on if this pick was a bust or not? We gave nearly as many ones as we got starts. Holy
damn that's sad. We used a first round pick for each full game he played. lol

I always thought he, as more a coach and not a GM, just squinted a saw his Allen or Mahomes, probably overestimated his ability to get that out of him.
Me as well. Kyle runs the show. Lynch defers to him especially at the QB position. Lynch publicly said this. Want to make your HC sleep better at night? Trade up from 4th into the 3rd to get your QB (e.g. Beatherd).
And it was Kyle all giddy about Trey after his workout, drawing up plays for him on his iPad on the flight home.

That's what I think likely happened. He probably really liked Mac, but also liked Trey. Just needed some convincing or incentivizing.
There's no way he didn't want Trey and then proceed to give him the starting job a year later with no competition.

Just heard about this story so I'm not sure what all has been said. My two cents is that it feels like a mistake. I don't think Darnold did all that much to prove he was significantly better than Lance. He might have looked the part better, but I don't recall that he led them to many points in his appearances. You have to wonder if maybe they're just trying to find a way to clear a little money for Bosa's deal. I seem to recall reading Darnold will cost them $3 million this year as opposed to Lance's nine million. Not sure what the ramifications of a trade would have on that number. Seems to me that even with Darnold's three, Lance's nine and Brock's $850K they would still be paying less for their QB room than a lot of other teams.
Obviously, I wasn't among those who was advocating for Lance to start his first year but I'm truly sorry we didn't get a chance to see him develop a bit more. By all accounts he's a really good kid who works hard and wants to be a good player. Of course, on the other hand, I'm not displeased that all of the people who were in here trying to convince everyone how great he was going to be before ever taking a snap in the league will now have the opportunity to reflect on the error of their ways.

He lost an entire year due to being made of glass. It is what it is.

Agreed they made the biggest trade in franchise history and royalty f**ked it up. I don't want Kyle fired or anything, but how do they get a pass for this? The process was dog s**t. From moving up and not even knowing who they would take. Passing on one of the highest ranked recruits in college history at QB, to making Lance a scout QB his whole rookie yr (which almost NEVER happens regardless of anything), to giving him 31 snaps last yr and then forcing him to split snaps with a guy that's been a turd in the NFL for half a decade…who so happens to have over 50 starts under his belt (no s**t he looks like he could be a good backup).
They lucked into Brock, who we have no f**king clue what he really is long-term. We're one bad snap away from counting on Sam Darnold to lead SF to the promise land? Lol that's not a SB team imo.
at this point just move him and let him actually have a chance to play football. I hope he balls out and they regret it.
Everyone takes it all so personal.
It's a swing and a miss. It happens, it's a giant miss, but the regime has so many giant hits, that they don't suffer as most franchises would from such a big miss.
I`m not upset about it, I believe we got the real deal and a future franchise QB with Brock. However we got here, doesn't matter anymore, can't go back.
I thought we were basically good with Jimmy but should have drafted a 2nd or 3rd round guy to push em. We went for the fences, came up way short, but hit a bunch of singles and doubles at all our other at bats so we're going to be okay.
Can't can a regime who brought in
Kittle - 5th rd
Warner - 3rd rd
Deebo - 2nd rd
Greenlaw - 5th rd
Hufanga - 5th rd
Purdy - 7th round
ELijah Mitchell - 6th rd
Juauan J - 7thd rd
CMC trade
Trey, our biggest miss, and we're still a title contender.
Meanwhile, in the 1st round:
Solomon Thomas (3rd overall)
Reuben Foster (31st)
Mike McGlinchey (9th)
Nick Bosa (2nd)
Javon Kinlaw (14th)
Brandon Aiyuk (25th)
Trey Lance (3rd overall + 2 other 1st round picks)
They got plenty wrong, but built a damn good roster. My issue is how horribly they've been with finding that QB. Pasted on opportunities to have the GOAT, the guy who's gonna be the next GOAT, a rock star who all he wanted was to play for SF, s**t toss in Rogers/Stafford as well.

Evaluate I agree with. Most people should have been able to see Lance wasn't gonna amount to much in the pros from just his college tape.

his fourth start only cost us a fourth round pick, since he didn't finish it.

Just don't end up in Cleveland.
