Dallas Cowboys QB Trey Lance Thread

Front office handled this horribly.

Unless they think Sam Darnold could be a long term answer.... which is tough to bet on.

Imo they let leakage spread and didn't nip things in the butt. (Maybe on purpose)

But we should have played things off and kept Trey one more season until we knew for sure about Brock. See how team adjust to him this season, and how Brock adjusts back... see if he could stay healthy as well.

*played things off meaning having a good relationship with Trey.. nothing but positive s**t.. until we got a firm grip on the next branch. (Be it Brock or Trey or Sam)

This. We likely pulled him off the field.

I guess he will always have the DEN preseason come from behind moment. Can you believe I was debating even this AM, on if this pick was a bust or not? We gave nearly as many ones as we got starts. Holy

damn that's sad. We used a first round pick for each full game he played. lol

ooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

you went there

At least it wasn't Mac Jones amirite?
Welp time for a name change I guess.

DarnoldDeyEeyDey

While I still have faith he will be good, this is arguably the worst pick in sports history.

Evaluate I agree with. Most people should have been able to see Lance wasn't gonna amount to much in the pros from just his college tape.

They drafted him because of his physical talent and work ethic. Some of this is because he got hurt though. Maybe he would be better today if he played all of last year.

They got plenty wrong, but built a damn good roster. My issue is how horribly they've been with finding that QB. Pasted on opportunities to have the GOAT, the guy who's gonna be the next GOAT, a rock star who all he wanted was to play for SF, s**t toss in Rogers/Stafford as well.

They have hitched their wagon to Brock now. Gotta be right. Hopefully they are.

Tua is teetering on too many concussions, so it may happen. It's also out of conference... same system that we run. Tons of talent - plus he would love south beach.

Dolphins was always my thought.... Tua has a glass jaw and McDaniel has history with TL

Agreed they made the biggest trade in franchise history and royalty f**ked it up. I don't want Kyle fired or anything, but how do they get a pass for this? The process was dog s**t. From moving up and not even knowing who they would take. Passing on one of the highest ranked recruits in college history at QB, to making Lance a scout QB his whole rookie yr (which almost NEVER happens regardless of anything), to giving him 31 snaps last yr and then forcing him to split snaps with a guy that's been a turd in the NFL for half a decade…who so happens to have over 50 starts under his belt (no s**t he looks like he could be a good backup).

They lucked into Brock, who we have no f**king clue what he really is long-term. We're one bad snap away from counting on Sam Darnold to lead SF to the promise land? Lol that's not a SB team imo.

at this point just move him and let him actually have a chance to play football. I hope he balls out and they regret it.

Everyone takes it all so personal.

It's a swing and a miss. It happens, it's a giant miss, but the regime has so many giant hits, that they don't suffer as most franchises would from such a big miss.

I`m not upset about it, I believe we got the real deal and a future franchise QB with Brock. However we got here, doesn't matter anymore, can't go back.

I thought we were basically good with Jimmy but should have drafted a 2nd or 3rd round guy to push em. We went for the fences, came up way short, but hit a bunch of singles and doubles at all our other at bats so we're going to be okay.

Can't can a regime who brought in

Kittle - 5th rd
Warner - 3rd rd
Deebo - 2nd rd
Greenlaw - 5th rd
Hufanga - 5th rd
Purdy - 7th round
ELijah Mitchell - 6th rd
Juauan J - 7thd rd
CMC trade

Trey, our biggest miss, and we're still a title contender.

Meanwhile, in the 1st round:

Solomon Thomas (3rd overall)
Reuben Foster (31st)
Mike McGlinchey (9th)
Nick Bosa (2nd)
Javon Kinlaw (14th)
Brandon Aiyuk (25th)
Trey Lance (3rd overall + 2 other 1st round picks)

Here's to hoping they finally got it right with Purdy then, my man! Even if they did fall ass over teakettle into the situation.

Will be great if they are, because that gives us a REALLY Cheap option at QB for a while.

That's the difference between a few NFCCG or a Super Bowl appearance vs a Super Bowl win or two.

it would have to be Jed, only ownership could have forced that.

Kyle said Trey was much more raw then they expected, and was much harder to develop then they expected....that they would never take a player like that again. It is as close to calling the pick a mistake as we will likely ever get from the franchise. Most importantly, it seemed earnest, like Kyle signed off on that draft choice.

I think he signed off for sure. He would have revolted just like he did in Cleveland, and to a lesser extent Washington.

I don't think it was soo much he was forced, but its possible everyone was saying he should go after Lance and he went the Democracy approach.

Werent there reports of this happening? Like him and Lynch pulled into all the coaches and assistants one by one and asked who they like without letting them know who Shanalynch actually preferred?

I feel bad for Lance though, tough break for a kid who did all he could while he was here. No ego, no troubles, just work and unfortunately it just didnt come together for him.

Trade him to NE so he can back up Mac. That'd be awesomely entertaining.

Lance was never going to get those reps here. He's got a long ways to go in terms of the work he needs to be a consistent NFL passer and he may never get there. Either way the 49ers have a SB window open and that doesn't go with a QB needing a lot of work. He needs to go someplace where they will be patient with him and let him go through the ups and downs he's going to need to develop.

Nor is Darnold and at least try to justify the asset mgmt you have spent if Purdy does get hurt. I get it, Purdy is the guy. Fine. Let's say that things don't go as planned and he s**ts the bed. Now what? You're back to square one with no plan at the most critical position in all of sports. Again, piss poor asset mangement. Everyone keeps referring to James Wiseman situation in GS.

Difference is, you have your franchise player locked up. We don't know with Purdy. It's too small of a sample size. Let's say we start off 0-4...*knocks on wood* trading Lance now or starting Darnold would be a complete debacle of the situation.

You can "what if" every team that has ever walked on a football field.

I will give you bonus points for the mental gymnastic of pointing out Purdy sample size, at the same time pointing to Trey as some sort of solution with even less of a sample size....that shows great moral flexibility.
