Unless they think Sam Darnold could be a long term answer.... which is tough to bet on.

Imo they let leakage spread and didn't nip things in the butt. (Maybe on purpose)

But we should have played things off and kept Trey one more season until we knew for sure about Brock. See how team adjust to him this season, and how Brock adjusts back... see if he could stay healthy as well.

*played things off meaning having a good relationship with Trey.. nothing but positive s**t.. until we got a firm grip on the next branch. (Be it Brock or Trey or Sam)

Agree with all of this.

The crazy thing is, no one seems to want the QB's that Shanahan likes;

Jimmy G = No Trade Value
Trey Lance = No Trade Value
San Darnold = No Trade Value
Brock Purdy = Every team passed on him 7 times in the draft.

Not a good look for an offensive guru.

Meanwhile Pete Carroll can resurrect Geno Smith???

Coaching is our issue. We have an offensive minded coach and everyone is talking about our defense LOL

It is not correct to look at the trade value. Jimmy G's injury certainly had a significant negative impact to his trade value. So if you want to be fair, look at the contract Jimmy G received this offseason, and the contract Kirk Cousins received when he left Washington.

JImmy's contract was for less money than he was making in 2021.

It was also negatively impacted by his injury.

Quite the contrary. That seems to indicate the whole league believe Shanahan is the reason for whatever success QBs have with him.

Agreed. Kyle is the reason Jimmy got that contract in Vegas and I bet they have buyers remorse by week 3.

There is already people making excuses for them if that happens. When really there is no excuse if Trey turns out to be elite for somebody else and Brock is not that guy here.

Yes, Shanahan was forced into nothing. He was convinced, against his judgement, and I think a big part of it was Lynch actually, based on the post-draft interview. EDIT: Lynch loves those high character guys. Probably he's the reason we took Solomon Thomas too.

not probably. he is. they were lab buddies at Stanford together in 2014

and this thread said this was a lie, Shanny finally pulled off the pump n dump

Lance was never going to get those reps here. He's got a long ways to go in terms of the work he needs to be a consistent NFL passer and he may never get there. Either way the 49ers have a SB window open and that doesn't go with a QB needing a lot of work. He needs to go someplace where they will be patient with him and let him go through the ups and downs he's going to need to develop.

Nor is Darnold and at least try to justify the asset mgmt you have spent if Purdy does get hurt. I get it, Purdy is the guy. Fine. Let's say that things don't go as planned and he s**ts the bed. Now what? You're back to square one with no plan at the most critical position in all of sports. Again, piss poor asset mangement. Everyone keeps referring to James Wiseman situation in GS.

Difference is, you have your franchise player locked up. We don't know with Purdy. It's too small of a sample size. Let's say we start off 0-4...*knocks on wood* trading Lance now or starting Darnold would be a complete debacle of the situation.

You can "what if" every team that has ever walked on a football field.

I will give you bonus points for the mental gymnastic of pointing out Purdy sample size, at the same time pointing to Trey as some sort of solution with even less of a sample size....that shows great moral flexibility.

My point was that we know what Darnold is....while you could go back to Trey and see what you have and then make a real determination on which path to go with moving forward...

You're really comfortable with Darnold....? Give me a break.
i just saw a tweet that said "which is a bigger bust, zach wilson or Trey lance?"

and a Jets fan said "we still have wilson and he didn't cost us more than one pick"... i was like damn.. lol

also, where the hell has Mayo been?

I think we're not getting anything close to that if/when we move him.

A conditional low rounder (5-7) would be my guess. Would love to be wrong

If they trade Lance and he becomes something good, should they be commended for drafting him, or blasted for trading him?

This is similar to, 'if you punch yourself in the face and start crying, are you strong or weak?"

man, I've always said his film was not good at all. Went from a top 3 pick to nearly worthless.. wtf

Even darnold was traded for a 2nd and some change.
If they were going to trade Trey Lance they wouldn't name Sam QB2 before the deal was done. I'm going to say he gets cut.

I disagree. I love the fact every other team passed on Purdy, not only shows how flawed evaluations can be, but same thing happened to the GOAT. Jimmy had no trade value based on a unique situation with timing and his surgery. Trey has trade value, it's just not high.

PR department can scream injury's all day but the fact is they couldn't trade JG and they can't trade TL.

No one interested, who cares if you get a 6th or 7th when you gave up 3 first rounders just a couple years ago?

Shanahan, is the reason why we have ALMOST won a super bowl whereas Andy Reid is the reason why Mahomes (a guy Kyle passed up on) has two rings and multiple MVP trophies at the age of 27.

It will probably be an undisclosed pick so people don't overreact.
