I'll take a single 5th. Future Pro Bowler for Lance who is a year away from being a year away? Done!

Well geez man, gotta start high then go low.

Book hasn't been banned yet hopefully!
Everyone is ragging on Darnold. If he's playing on a stacked roster like this, with Kyle Shanahan calling the plays, I think he'd do just fine. At some point I think a light bulb went off that the QB doesn't have to be a $60 Million player if you can spread that money more impact fully at other positions and get a talented, savvy point-guard like Purdy to run the offense. I think Darnold could do well also. Darnold got buried being put in the worst situation with crap teams. Lance struggled with arguably the best roster in the NFL. He didn't get a lot of chances, but he got chances. Unfortunate. Wish him well. He was over-drafted. Seems like a really good kid.

Unless they think Sam Darnold could be a long term answer.... which is tough to bet on.

Imo they let leakage spread and didn't nip things in the butt. (Maybe on purpose)

But we should have played things off and kept Trey one more season until we knew for sure about Brock. See how team adjust to him this season, and how Brock adjusts back... see if he could stay healthy as well.

*played things off meaning having a good relationship with Trey.. nothing but positive s**t.. until we got a firm grip on the next branch. (Be it Brock or Trey or Sam)

Uhhh why would this matter with Brock

Again because we had the luxury of buying us time to find out how Brock would be this season or next before moving on from someone we invested alot of time and picks on. Even if that cost us 10mil.

Jimmy looked AMAZING in 2017.. those final 7 games was it? Then he struggled at the start of 2018.. then got himself hurt cutting back into the field instead of going out of bounds.

I would have preferred to see how Brock looks another season, nothing wrong with that I would think.

The calculus is Allen at QB3 + a draft pick + 9 million in savings

or Lance as QB3.

This of course is in the event of a trade. I would still be surprised if they cut him.

The reality is we aren't winning s**t depending on either of these guys IMO. Again, don't let our upside down depth chart from last year fool you. We aren't winning the SB unless Purdy is healthy and rolling.

Then lets hope Purdy stays healthy and rolling.

and this thread said this was a lie, Shanny finally pulled off the pump n dump

man, I've always said his film was not good at all. Went from a top 3 pick to nearly worthless.. wtf

Even darnold was traded for a 2nd and some change.

what if there is no trade offer right now and they never get one by the cut down? I would be impressed with Shanny if he actually had the cajones to take care of business and cut TL this camp and keep Brandon Allen as QB3

Kyle would be a complete moron to cut him. Major cap ramifications

To me, the cap ramification is irrelevant. There are lots of way to always push forward or push back the cap.

The amount paid to Trey is just sunk cost.

it would cost us more to cut him than keep him, makes no sense to cut him. you'd rather lose $15M in dead cap and have Allen than just to keep lance?

I think they are actually more comfortable with Allen at QB3 than Trey.

we are already over the cap next year by quite a bit, and you want to tack on like $10M over a third string position that most likely won't play? eff that.

Keeping Trey at QB3 is going to be a huge distraction to the team. You want to do that for not only this year but next year as well?

yes, I'd rather keep him. It can't be worse than bringing back jimmy after last summer and making him the backup. It's not like Lance is hated, hes just bummed hes QB3.

There is absolutly no way that he isn't worth at least a 6-7th round pick in any draft. If they cut him, its just dumb. Hell it would make more sense to send him to a team and tack on our 7th round pick instead of cutting him for free.

Even if Brock isn't good, Trey isn't the long term answer. They have seen enough

Kyle doesnt like that trey doesnt play in rythm

Fine. Then don't put him any competition with a proven bust. You give him every preseason rep possible so he can learn to play with the rhythm Shanny wants. This was a total mismanagement of epic proportions.

Until we get a similar looking QB again, I'm sure.

We just need to finally get through a season with our starting quarterback, staying healthy the entire year. Then the backup becomes an afterthought, which is a perfect role for Sammy.
