Nevermind Josh Johnson last year. Nice try though.

Brock better be that dude, and stay healthy. All I gotta say

Can't guarantee it, but every single aspect of his 8 games played show a player who fits perfectly into the system and can make plays off schedule.

I have no reason not to believe in him, unless the point is to be pessimistic.

What an embarrassment.

Indeed. But it happens. The great Bill Walsh whiffed on plenty of high picks also. At least they are acknowledging the mistake and turning the page. Lance would have been a good guy to develop if he was picked mid rounds and wasn't under enormous pressure as the heir apparent. A spectacular fail by Shanahan and the front office. But at the end of the day, it's a very strong roster and they hit large on Purdy with a throw away pick. It's an inexact science for sure.

It comes with the territory.

Unless a team offered something decent for Lance, I really don't understand the timing of this.

I really don't understand what they're doing at this point.

Just my guess, Trey felt he should have won the #2 job.. sees the writing on the wall and just wants to get on with his career (trade or release), instead of some 3rd emergency QB.

Front Office didn't expect that kind of reaction from Trey, thought he'd be a good trooper for another season. And they were just trying to get ahead of the story with their own leaks.

If this is true, this has to go down as the most mismanaged QB situation in football history. I totally understood naming Purdy the starter. He earned it. I was all for getting Sam Darnold as an insurance QB, NOT TO COMPETE WITH LANCE FOR THE #2 QB JOB!! From what I saw in preseason games you're not making me believe that Darnold outplayed Lance, and from what I read and heard from people who's been at the practices Lance has been better than Darnold. You give up 3 years of 1st round picks, but after 4 career regular season starts (one he got injured in) you basically label him a bust, only to replace him with - you guest it - a proven bust. Name me a bonified QB bust in the history NFL that has gotten so few opportunities to prove himself, including the proven bust on our team now that proved himself to be a bust in 55 games.

And where's the local press corps on this. How is it that they haven't they didn't break this? Shanny & Co. needs a press corps like Chicago or New York. I have never in my life been so disgusted with the team I love.

Finally, Shanny had better win a SB with Brock after this. Because if he don't he's on well-deserved hotseat.

Correct. Total fail

The only thing mismanaged was drafting Trey in the first place. Massive over reach on a total project, a guy that was totally unprepared to be in the NFL.

And now it's being reported that the 49ers have been shopping him all summer, with NO substantial offers from the rest of the NFL. So despite what Grant and others on this board say, Trey does not just "need more reps" to reach his "high ceiling".

Umm, the Trey Lance trade wasn't looked at favorably before today's events my man.

Only a handful of crazy Niners fans weren't seeing it for what it was. And who cares anyway? We are a top 5 team in the NFL going on half a decade now.

Maybe but there was still time to turn it around once he developed. But when he is traded, all hope is gone. And it could still turn out even worse if he becomes elite elsewhere and we still don't win a SB. I don't see how this benefits the Niners at all. Only bad things can happen if they move him.
