Listen, I get that this was potentially leaked, either by the team, Trey's agent, or because of the fact Trey missed practice, so they didn't plan for this to happen.
So with that in mind, I understand their hand were potentially tied.
I'n just frustrated because I thought Kyle could at least help the team by getting something for Trey. And I'm not confident Sam is head and shoulders about Trey anyway. I've been wrong before, many times, and I hope (if there's an injury) that Sam proves me wrong. I feel like this would be easier to handle if our backup was DTR or someone I felt truly showed the skills that could potentially challenge Brock.
Well beyond the fact that we're getting to the point where team's set their depth chart, look at the reaction to the news that Sam had won the competition. Better suited to have that now than later simply from a distraction angle.
I don't necessarily think this was a huge motivating factor but it's an easy one to consider.
The biggest factor would be were just trying to move Trey, and that's also a better sooner than later move. There's very little doubt in my mind that Trey has the same value today as he had a two days ago.
