There's no team out there that will find you ready to start and lead, so you may as well stay here where you got the team supporting you..

44 saw you became a leader last year, and if you're going to be on another team riding the bench, may as well be here..

Yep and its not like he will be taking a pay cut by being the #3 here. Actually he has a pretty cushy job for making millions.

Yep maybe his issue is that he was missing a chip on his shoulder. Use this to create a chip to make yourself better.
Lance, with the injuries and the time he needs for development, wasn't a good fit for this team that's been and continues to be ready to compete for a SB.

Whichever team Lance goes, can see him in time developing into a good-to-very-good QB1.

Moving on, and hoping we've got our guy in Purdy.

Listen, I get that this was potentially leaked, either by the team, Trey's agent, or because of the fact Trey missed practice, so they didn't plan for this to happen.
So with that in mind, I understand their hand were potentially tied.

I'n just frustrated because I thought Kyle could at least help the team by getting something for Trey. And I'm not confident Sam is head and shoulders about Trey anyway. I've been wrong before, many times, and I hope (if there's an injury) that Sam proves me wrong. I feel like this would be easier to handle if our backup was DTR or someone I felt truly showed the skills that could potentially challenge Brock.

Well beyond the fact that we're getting to the point where team's set their depth chart, look at the reaction to the news that Sam had won the competition. Better suited to have that now than later simply from a distraction angle.

I don't necessarily think this was a huge motivating factor but it's an easy one to consider.

The biggest factor would be were just trying to move Trey, and that's also a better sooner than later move. There's very little doubt in my mind that Trey has the same value today as he had a two days ago.

I'm sure Lance would much prefer to be starting than rotting away on the bench though. I know what I would do If I we're him.

He isn't starting anywhere this season and would have to win a competition next year, best case scenario.

It's not like he is old. He can keep learning the job and he'll be a free agent in two years. And he'll have made $34M before being a free agent.

Sure, that's true. Just pointing out nobody who trades for him is starting him without him being a part of their offseason program and with someone they feel better about at starter. He could end up in the position down the road this season with poor play or injury as well.
As much as I don't like the idea of someone playing for their hometown team (I don't think the benefits outway the potential cons)... The Vikings seem like a perfect situation for Trey. Good trade scenario for both the player and team.

For the Vikings...should they wait until next year to try and get him? or get him now/this season. It might be cheaper getting Trey after this season, who knows.

The benefit of getting Trey now is that they would have a whole season with him... him learning their playbook.. their personnel. Perfect going into next year with potentially him as the starter. Getting a good look at him this season would also give them a better idea what they should do come draft time.

So because of that they should give in alittle more than they feel they need to, to get the 9ers on board.

Good thoughts here man. I was listening to Peter King, he was saying the prob on Vikings, with the timing, is it basically is a big eff you to Kirk. They may not want that kind of story or energy as they are trying to go into a campaign. They would have to say yeah we are looking to move on, but have a good year type vibes, to Kirk. That was his commentary. He said spring would make more sense for them, when Kirk is off contract.
from ESPN Billy Barnwell:

Now, after Purdy's emergence and a frustrating preseason, Lance's career with the 49ers is likely done. It would be a surprise if he was on their roster after the trade deadline on Oct. 31.

Vikings would be better off waiting until the offseason. Trading for him now would put Cousins in the same position Garoppolo was in 2021 which is not great for a long-time starting QB. Jimmy G at least had the full offseason to reckon with it, too, whereas this would be placed on Cousins' shoulders right before Week 1.
I'm sorry, my beloved 49ers failed Trey Lance. And if I were him I'd demand to be released.

Also from the Barnwell:

On the merits of his play as a passer, Lance was closer to No. 4 quarterback Brandon Allen than he was to Darnold.
