For the betterment of his career, he should demand to be released. I would.

Lol. The 49ers will tell him they paid him 30+ million dollars and they'll do what's in their best interest. Be a pro and stfu.

I don't get the we failed Lance take. Clearly we sold the ranch, so we were all in.

I just don't think we should have played him while injured and not ready year 1.
We played him and he got a season ender, year 2
Should we be handing BP the clipboard now? I don't get where the failed part comes in..

Understood.

I'd still demand the release.

On the merits of his play as a passer, Lance was closer to No. 4 quarterback Brandon Allen than he was to Darnold.

pretty in depth piece here

A very thorough and fair-minded analysis. Lance's limited playtime and injuries combined to set him back too much for a team with this roster and a surprising more game-ready young QB. Nothing here is Lance's fault. He probably should have played another season in college, but then again he was the 3rd overall pick and pocketed a ton of money because of it, so it's not a total black & white retrospective decision.

We probably shouldn't be running him a QB in between the tackles then bench him when he got injured due to that.

He's not in any position to demand anything.

Honestly think there was little point to Lance playing another college season in the situation he was in.

It was unfortunate for him that we took him instead of a team like the Bears.

People are so dramatic about this. The only thing I'm upset by is that they took him 3rd overall and wasted a bunch of first rounders while doing so. What's happened with Trey is unfortunate for him, but he wasn't sabotaged or done dirty. He was redhsirted, given the job, injured then outplayed by somebody else on the team. Meanwhile he made a bunch of money.

The Niners should take flak but not because they were big meanies to Lance. They should take flak because they suck at drafting in the first round.

Released or traded or staying, he'll be in a situation where he has no chance to start.

49ers should have had a firm idea of exactly who they were trading up for before they traded up.

Can't disagree here. Outside of Bosa who was a gimme, their 1st round track record is very Steve Keim like.
