He lost a competition to Baker and was injured going into the season. When he returned late he was the best performing QB they had for the year… low bar as it was.

4-2 record to end the season. Signs with San Francisco for under $5 mil and now he's the back up QB. It's that easy.

Cutting him would cost us more cap money and real money since most of his salary's guaranteed. Trading him now, if there are teams willing to take on his contract, would yield very little if anything. So, in keeping Lance 49ers would get:

1. More trade leverage. at the moment, all teams have their qb plan for the season in place. if an injury happens, a team might need to replenish depth.
2. More qb depth. if an injury happens to our qb room, there's more depth.
3. Talent. Trey can still develop into someone special. Injury and rise of Brock set Trey back, but doesn't mean he can't still develop into something special.
