Why? If it wasn't for Brock Trey would be the starter. Unless you are saying Trey isn't good.

If they're willing to trade him away for a 4th round only then obviously they don't think highly of him.

Trust me, I was one of the biggest Trey fans, I'm sad he's gone but it's time to move on.

I think Kyle signed those guys with the mindset of "I'm going to give Lance a chance this off season but if he doesn't impress, I'm moving on". I don't think he made up his mind early, I think he really have Lance a chance but he's just not capable at this point in time.

I agree.

Kyle is getting a lot of heat in his thread that he doesn't deserve. He was making moves to protect the franchise IN CASE Lance did not work out. Kyle was making moves to protect this talented roster's chance to contend for a Lombardi. He deserves credit for not being locked into a situation that has proven it wasn't going to get better quickly enough for the needs of the team.

Kyle's job is to put the team in the best position he can to win each game and the SB. He has to be ruthless in his assessment and he is not there to keep the fanboys of any particular player happy. It is a tough business,

Please provide one example, just one, of me spinning something in regards to Trey Lance. You are talking about the wrong poster.

You just did it on behalf of NY, and I explained the gist of it in that post.

I'm not writing a novel when the involved posters who argued with him all offseason understood it.

This. SMDH

100% I loved the Darnold signing, cuz I saw a lot that left me concerned last season about Trey. I did not like his game, at all. I was kinda thinking maybe BP misses the year, at that time, you never know with major stuff to your throw arm. So Darnold gave us an option, if TL didn't show something. I think that's what Kyle was doing. I really like this room now. Sam has been a QB1, Allen a QB2, and BP looks to be a QB of the future. It's exciting. I think everyone wished / hoped TL would be Allen/Mahomes but, not meant to be.

100 percent.
i think trading Trey to Dallas actually shows what Kyle really thinks about Trey's ability. and i think that is not very highly. he's not worried one bit Trey will come back to bite him in the ass. he couldve sent him out of the division to BUF but opted to send him to a rival. i think it says a lot.

Unless you're old enough to remember trading Joe to KC.

this whole situation was not hard to see if you were paying attention to what ShannaLynch were saying and doing ever since they resigned Jimmy Gesus last year

Dude. No. 90% of your b******t is wrong. This is what happened: Trey Lance got hurt. Jimmy G got hurt. And Brock Purdy had the 5th best Total QBR in the entire NFL and lead the league in passing touchdown percentage. At this very moment right here, and not a SECOND before it, Trey Lance's fate was sealed:

Anything that happened before or after that is irrelevant. That was the moment Brock became the 49ers QB.

no dude I was right on a lot of sh!t regarding TL, you just weren't paying attention

No dude, you are mostly wrong. You're wrong here, you're wrong about believing Shanahan was forced into making a selection, and so on.

Definitely.

Think about the leap it would take to believe this:

We traded a player we think could be great with time to a chief conference rival for a 4th round pick and will pay 60 percent of his salary over the next two years.

Absolutely insane.

I don't think that is true. If the team thought lance was any good, he would still be here. not completely moved for pennies.

absolutely. in order to send him to a conference rival for a superbowl, you must think so little of Trey. crazy. slap in the face to lance lol

Yeah, as little as they think of Josh Allen in Buffalo, Trey woulda started there by mid season.

Very true.

But if Trey gets more reps then who knows.

I don't disagree. I would just state it another way:

Kyle realized that unless Lance got a lot of reps, he was never going to be the player he needed to be to benefit this team. The upshot of all that is that Kyle was not worried about him becoming a very good player because there would be very little chance in Dallas to be more than a backup to Dak with few reps there.
