Look I want Lance to succeed, hope he somehow does. And there are a ton of fans out there rooting for him, wanting him to do well, and everyone agrees he needs more reps. I'm sure Lance thought this too. But then why did Lance leave school? Why play one season, then sit out another season, and want to go to the NFL despite not having the reps? So many statistics and evidence that shows the need to have a certain amount of college snaps to be successful in the league. He should have transferred to another school to get those reps. But he didn't, his family friends, agent, told him he would possibly would be a top 10 pick and instead he went to the draft to get paid. Don't get me wrong I'm furious about the trade up, but everyone is holding the Niners accountable for Treys growth. But it's on Trey for deciding against the odds and stats to go to the draft. That's on him.

In terms of the leaving school, he had $34m reasons why, I would guess his team told him he's locked in as an early round NFL prospect, and to declare. Hey, if I had $34m I probably would want to get it too, rather than put it at risk, now why was he evaluated that highly? great question, but the draft does this, we saw it with Wilson also, very overhyped

Agree 💯%, and Trey, as much as the national media has raked him over the hot coals, he's going to be paid 34 million by the end of his rookie contract. I think anyone would take 34 million, be lambasted by the national media, and just coast after a year of that, for the rest of his life. He's a millionaire now. His life is going to be good - pretty much no matter what now.
Now it makes sense why they traded him to Dallas. Ravens Bills and Lions wanted to trade conditional 6ths. Dallas clearly wanted him more, hoped one of those teams matched Dallas tho.
wow, Jerry Jones marked up the trade market LOL he is such a terrible GM

Trading him to Dallas, what a weird choice seriously.
They couldn't trade him to an AFC team or a NFC team less "linked" with the Niners?
Might as well keep him.

Yeah I would of only did that for a really high draft pick, but not what will be a really low 4th.

I heard the Bills were interested, and I would of taken their offer even if it was a 5th.

Youd take less value? Interesting.

With that said, I don't see how this helps Trey but there is somewhat of a possibility he could be in competition with Dak if Dak doesn't perform this year. But I doubt Trey could win it. He needed to go to Washington or some place he can start and play with regularity.

To be fair our hit rate in the 5th round is pretty damn good with this front office. 4th rounders at hit or miss

Yup, 5th - UDFA's has to be the best ROI over 7 years compared to every other team. Rounds 1-4? Gotta be one of the very worst.

From a long term point of view, I'd rather hit on late rounds than depend on early rounds. Bosa is an example. What if you pick Bosa, and for the rest of his career you don't pick any earlier than pick #29? Now your team is screwed if the only time you draft well is when you have the top 10 pick in the draft.

But if you hit on late rounders consistently, your team (no matter what record you had the previous year) will always have a good draft, generally speaking.

Thats tough for folks like me who want a Trent Williams level player every draft, but if we can get a Banks or Brendel, that goes a long way to satisfy that number 1 pick draft itch.

Great point.

Agreed! I would just like to see more focus on the OL.

Me too. I thought they would have atleast drafted some depth in the 3rd round but instead selected a kicker. I will be NC level disappointed if their 2024 draft isn't heavily focused on the o line.

Totally agree 💯%, and I would be totally more than beyond pissed at Kyle for not protecting the franchise QB that won the #6 🏆

Nope just a fan tired of the same ol s**t. Feels like 2014.

How in the world is this similar to 2014?

You're stressing over the trade of a 3rd string qb.

Yup and I would have taken the money too. But this narrative is not discussed. Everyone agrees he needs more reps. I am quite sure Trey would have a better career if he stayed in school. Yeah he might not have been the 3rd overall the following year, who knows, but he would be a better QB and possibly have a longer career.
Anyway I'm hoping Lance can improve and have a long career. Wish him the best.

wow so the Cowgirls had a 2nd round grade on Lance when he was drafted.... much more realistic imo

If true, I agree, much more realistic. And if the 9ers took him in the 2nd round he'd still be here, I mean in SF, I'm in Hawaii, you know what I mean.

I'd rather be here than in Hawaii where it's tough to live there with fires raging around you. Hope you are healthy, wealthy, and whole in the 50th state of the union.

Your second paragraph is on the money. But I would say Kyle has choked in the SB. His play calling has been ordinary in some big games.

Lol it was my nice way of saying he choked haha. That last 7 mins or so with the KC game, I mean how does that even happen? Brain fog? Lol. I was so mad lol..got my celebratory drinks going on, then bam. Lol. Hopefully, Kyle won't get the fog again lol. I am sure he learned from it.

That happens because their players executed and ours didn't. It was also a microcosm of what the NFL has become. I think it was Steve Young who recently pointed out that defenses rarely win games like they used to, and last season had more 10-pt 4th quarter swings than ever before in league history. The rules are so tipped in the offenses favor that it's the offense that doesn't execute that loses a game (Jimmy G not hitting Sanders) more than it is a defense that loses it.

In hindsight, there were hints that Trey didnt have the mentality to be our guy after the strip club pics after the horrible week 1 loss last season. And then being sent home after being told the QB3 news was not a good look. And asking for a trade instead of trying to fight for his place on the team that made him a top 3 pick? His mentality isn't what we need in a QB1.

Uh huh
Wow. Good luck kid.

Glad the saga is over with and we can move on and get ready for this season.
disclaimer: Just looking @ what we hauled in,....anyone that said all offseason that they really didn't believe in the kid anymore was 100% right. My apologies for any doubting of this.
"There's a number of teams involved to end up getting the fourth was a little better than we anticipated and clears up a lot of money and allows a better situation for him too."

Well that just sums up what the league thought of him. The irony here is that Jimmy netted us a 3rd.

They didnt have to trade him, they wanted him. Trey didnt want to be here. Just let this thread die or lock it now. He isnt even on the team. He didnt want to be here and now hes on our arch enemy. We dont need to root for this dude

Yeah, that's my read of it too. Once Trey didn't get the QB2 position, he wanted out. I'm also sure that Trey knows Purdy is going to be the QB1 here for a long time and won't be surpassing him (if ever) for a good half decade with Brock's game. At least in Dallas, Trey has time to develop, they wanted him, and I think once Trey reaches his potential, he'll be able to take the QB1 position from Dak.
