LOL why would the Cowboys give up a 4th RD pick to just cut him a few days later?

What the Cowboys plan on doing is what the Niners should have done and that is develop him for the future. They will probally restructure his contract next year to make it more affordable. People forget he is only 23. There is no rush.
Trey didn't want to sit and develop.. Trey isn't going to get much help in Dallas

What? Where did you get that?
From Kyle, Kyle wanted Trey to stay. But Trey requested the trade

Yeah, looks like Trey wanted nothing to do with the injury 🐜🪲 nest at 49er headquarters. And Yeah, I think he was a bit too hasty in his decision about leaving and requesting a trade. But also, I think he has a shot at QB1 or QB2 with Dak (age 30) and Cooper (age 29) in the Dallas QB squad. By the time Trey develops - two or three years will have passed, Dak will be 33-ish.

I think Trey needed a new team mentally. He was drafted high, was an undisputed QB1 last season, he couldn't accept it mentally that he got demoted all the way to QB3. Too embarrasing.

I think many of us in that situation would probably do the same. If you got demoted twice in your job, you probably want to look for a new job with a different employer, even if the new job is the same level and pay as your current job after the demotion.

Also, age is not really a factor for Dak. QB can play pass 35 easily.

I'd agree with this.

Injuries tJG that forced Trey into action too soon. Injuries to Trey that prevented the needed game action and practices. If JG could have stayed healthy long enough for themto really develop Trey and gradually move him intothe lineup then this whole story may have been different.

It's over now so it's time to move on. I hope Brock stays healthy because if we have to rely on Darnold for more than a couple games we're in trouble.

He's going to be the third string in Dallas too.

It's not Jimmy's fault Trey busted.

I didn't say it was JG's fault. If he had been able to stay healthy (not his fault) then they could have taken more time with Trey. It was obvious that he needed it. Kyle named Trey the starter in his 2nd season when he really wasn't ready. If Jimmy had been healthier they would have signed him for that season as the starter. Instead he came back as the backup and then got hurt.

I'm not blaming anyone. Just pointing out that a series of bad breaks and poor decisions lead to this debacle.

For sure. It is embarrassing to be picked so high and demoted to be so low. It's a fresh start with a fresh set of circumstances, for sure. Different plans, different challenges. Good luck to him.

Just luck of the draw (or you can say God) that he suffered two season ending injuries twice in two years. Dak can play for sure till he's 40 nowadays, but that doesn't mean Trey has no shot. Purdy is 23 - he'll be a 49er (if he stays as healthy as Dak) for a lot longer than Dak will be a Cowboy from here on in.

lol unless Dak and Cooper Rush get hurt, no

Yeah I know. Lol would be wild if that happened. Crazier stuff has happened though. Lol

I don't think there is any way he doesn't make the team. 1. They owe him $5M+ next year. 2. they just gave up a fourth round pick

i think their plan is to have him learn the system for a year and QB3 and then try and be QB2 next year and put pressure on dak. Not a bad situation for him. Just hope he fails cause I hate that team and if he did well there, it's worse than just about anything. Lol

He's also in a new situation without expectations. It was almost impossible for him to live up to three first rounders and top 3, outside of becoming elite. That goes for 99% of players, not just Trey. Tough situation for him. The change of scenery and expectations should bode well for him.

Sounds about right. And if he can't unseat Dak next year he'll be a free agent afterwards, and another team will surely give him a deal to compete in another QB room.

I think the cowboys will resign him if they like him. At the end of treys contract he will be like 24-25, if he does well, they'll keep him around. Dak is 30 now I think. So he will be like 32, if he keeps up the interceptions and losing in the playoffs - it might be tough.

i could see Lance being a longtime backup there.

Very possible.

This move doesn't make any sense for Dallas, unless it's intel they wanted
i can see Jerry Jones doing a Tayson HIll with TL, so Dak doesn't have to get beat up running the ball

Agree💯%. Three first round picks is Joe Montana/Steve Young level of elite. That's tremendous pressure on a youngster so raw. He's at the bottom now, looking up at the bottom part of the door. Nowhere else to go but up. I don't think he's ever had to go through any football adversity. High school, College, were pretty much easy for him. NFL was a different animal. This will build his character and make him stronger in the long run - if he perseveres.

Lance left because he didn't want to be a backup, I doubt a new city would change his feelings
