No question he's a better athlete with a better arm than Brock but he doesn't see the field or make the quick decisions.

Seemed to me that most of his drives were screwed up by penalties and/or dropped passes. He wasn't perfect but I think if you put him in with the starters, you can get more reliable play to win a game then you can Lance right Now. I think that's what some are missing.

It isn't a matter of the future and who can/will be better, it's which one can give more reliable play this season. Since we know what darnold is good and bad at, it's much easier to put him in situations to win. We really never found out what Lance did well on the field.

The thing is that in the NFL the future is always one play away. I watched a QB for Carlsbad chew up Mater Dei last night. He's committed to Alabama next year. He can run and pass like Caleb Williams but maybe even better. Maybe 4 years from now the Niners can draft him.

Julian sayin?

Kyle is a very poor judge of talent not in his camp.

Kyle knows quite accurately who can play and who can not once he gets them in his camp, and practice, not games, is 90 percent of that evaluation.

Kyle was done with Trey after year two.

John has final say on bringing in all players, via draft or free agency. He said he will never deny Kyle what he needs to run his offense. John knows football, and style of play. He is more capable of determining what Kyle needs than Kyle on players not in Kyle's camp.

Lynch of course is far from perfect, but this strong roster is all due to him, not Kyle. Let him do it.

I agree. Kap did some great things for a couple of years. This team is more talented offensively and I can't see Trey having the run Kap did 2012 - 2013 season.

Definitely. He is in the same spot with a more entrenched starter. At least with the 49ers, there was a slight chance and he knows this system- three straight training camps here. Idk...crazy to me that he wouldn't want to beat out Darnold.

He had no chance to beat out Darnold because there wasn't a competition. They've been off Trey for a min. He was clearly the better player than Darnold in camp and preseason.
Hmmm. Don't know about that. Were you at camp? Were you in the meeting rooms or at all of the practices? The Raider's game was pretty much a disaster for him and the start of the Denver game wasn't much better. Think what you want of JT O'Sullivan, but he made some of the same arguments that Gregg Cosell, who is pretty objective most days, made later on. In the first part of the game Lance kept turning down throws that were there to be made and ended up turning potential completions into sacks. It seems to me that in Kyle's scheme you have to be willing to pull the trigger, which he didn't seem to be able to do on a consistent basis.

Now he certainly improved later on in both games, but I don't think that there is any way you can make the declaration that he was clearly better. I wasn't all that impressed with Darnold, but I could see why the team made the decision they did, both from a football and PR standpoint. Yeah, you take the short-term hits from people saying the Lance trade was, the "worst in history". But you spare yourself the season long distraction his presence on the roster would have surely been, and you save yourself a little money. By all accounts Lance was a good kid, and it was a tough break the way things worked out for him, but the future is now and Brock, Darnold and Allen is probably a more stable QB room than one that included Lance. Go Niners!
Still sounds weird..Trey the Dallas Cowboy lol
Wouldve been a perfect fit in Buffalo. Can totally run Josh Allen's offense.

New York with Brian Daboll would of been a great fit for him. That is the guy who molded Josh allen.

This 4ML guy really loved Lance. Lol bummer it didn't work out, I was really hoping I was wrong about the pick. I don't like that he went to Dallas, I was hoping to root for him from a far but I hate that damn team. We will see them week 5, so Cohn can go fondle him in the hallway.

i just don't think it's a good culture for him. I don't think the team is going to give an eff about him, I think the team here was worried about his play but genuinely cared about him. This organization has one of the best cultures in the league, I think he'll learn that the hard way.

4ML is off burning sage somewhere right now to cleanse the evil spirits.

I feel bad for the folks that were super psyched about Lance. I always thought he'd be a longshot because of his inexperience and that he had to do little in that offense but be another cog in a title winning machine but a lot of scouts also seemed to like him considerably and his upside. With the injuries and other issues, it just never worked out for him here.
The Niners must truly not believe in Trey Lance because there is no way on God's green earth you trade him to one of, if not your greatest rival if you think he has a chance at becoming something.

I think it sucks for all of us, whether you thought he would work out or not. I can only speak for myself but I really wanted to be wrong. I don't get any joy out of being right about a player not working out. I want every player that suits up as a 49er, to be awesome.

there is a part of me that wants him to at least be serviceable so he can have a long career as a backup, at least. He's a person and I don't like seeing anyone fail.

Yeah, you have to be super confident that he isn't going to amount to much for you to trade him to a conference rival that is one of the biggest threats to your road to a super bowl. I worry about him being able to give insider info to help gameplan against us, we will find out week 5.

Cowboys D is tough for our O cause they're so athletic and fast.
So he's gonna be the 3rd stringer on the Cowboys as well?
