Dallas Cowboys QB Trey Lance Thread

Wishing Lance the best. Seems like a good and decent person. He was probably picked too early, and needed a lot more reps in college, but it is what it is. For him, the got a $34 million contract at age 22, and now has a fresh start. For the 49ers, they lost the chance to select other talented players for a few years, hopefully found a good QB in Purdy, time will tell.
Time to move on.

I can't believe that darnold and his 4000 turnovers with the jets resulted in a 2nd and 2 other picks, while he had an $18m salary, but he's trash and Lance is not. Lol that isn't what the market is telling us and that isn't what Kyle/Lynch is telling us by sending him to a conference rival.

It was 8000 turnovers and only 3 TDs dude, get it right

Jerry was scouting the Trey Lance stripper vid. It all makes sense.

People keep saying it was never personal with Trey but yet here they are still trashing him 4 days after he was traded when he has done nothing but handle everything with class since he was drafted. It's pretty embarrassing. I still think among some(not all) that race played a part in their hatred and part of it also is they blame him for Jimmy no longer being here. Now I think with some it's the trade up and what they invested but then that hate should be directed at Kyle and John, Not Trey. But yet Kyle and John are getting no blame and even getting praise.

I said since Kyle drafted him that he, John, and Trey are joint at the hip. The one can't look bad without the other. If Trey fails, Kyle and John fail. This was their guy. But it's like alot of Niner fans are distancing Trey from the people who drafted him.

Lol first of all, no one is mad/disappointed at Trey the person. Just Trey the football player. I've never heard or read anything ever putting down Trey as a man/person.

second, no one is distancing themselves from Kyle & Lynch because they're really good at their job. Kyle has had us in contention for the superbowl every year when the team is healthy and John Lynch & Co have built one of the best, if not the best, roster in the NFL. They made one big ass mistake that, so far, hasn't even hurt the team. it hasn't hurt the team because they're really good at their job.

so what you're saying is ridiculous. You want them in trouble because someone youve heavily invested your emotions in didnt work out and you're upset about it. we blew a 3rd overall pick, and two 29th overall picks on him. It sucks but it isn't the end of the world.

If you want to be upset, be upset at yourself for thinking Trey would be good and/or ready to play in the league. be upset kyle & john thought Lance was worth the pick and not Fields/Jones.

To be perfectly honest trading up to three was their biggest mistake, there wasn't a single player in that draft worth that much capital. You have to take big risks to get good qb's above your draft spot, so you cannot fault the team for that, but spending all those picks for anyone in that draft was just kinda crazy. Fields and Jones were not worthy of those picks either.

Stephen Jones just said they want to get Lance signed to a long term contract sooner rather than later. Those boys are nuts.

Lol I don't get it.. are they tryna replace Dak in two years? maybe that is their plan to clear up some cap space going forward.

Dak is going to continue costing them a fortune, so maybe they think they can get adequate play out of Lance. I've always said that I thought Trey's ceiling was a Dak type player.

Trey will be better than Dak when it's all said and done. Dak is in Kirk Cousins territory for me.

Trey gonna drop some 5k passing seasons?

Watching a few Dallas fan YouTubes this morning and they pretty much are all sticking to like 7 to 10 throws on repeat.

I will say this, I was wayyyyyyy off on Cooper Rush...... I remember Dallas guys going nuts over him, first guy to win his first 5 games as a QB, 5-1 record...they loved the dude....

Now?

Nope.... they really don't seem to like Cooper Rush....I don't know what he did...but the narrative from YouTube guys is flipped. Some of them don't know how he beat out Grier. They all seem to think Trey takes that back up job sooner rather than later. Some think 30-40 days from now.

I don't know if they are over valuing Trey, or how wrong I am on Cooper Rush.

I have a feeling that fan base thinks Trey is something that Trey simple isn't at this point in his career. They are going to flip on him so hard if he goes in and struggles... Some of them seem to think they stole a top 3 QB prospect for a 4th rounder, not that the 49ers screwed the pooch drafting Trey....

Trey never got booed here....regardless of his struggles, I hope Dak stays up and they use Cooper if he doesn't.... I don't want Trey to have to go threw hostile fans in what is suppose to be his home stadium.

Side note, Dallas has real salary issues...they are going to be thinning out recent draft choices to make their 53....I wonder if QB depth chart is in play.

One thing the Dallas team got is a developmental player. I think it will take at least two years to get him up to speed with the needed reps. I don't think he's going to get a lot of reps in Dallas so long as Dak is there - so that slows his development even more. Having said that, they are getting a great guy, great character, great work ethic, and a very talented and physically gifted player. It's now up to Jerrah and company to do right by Trey and give him good coaches and develop him as best they can, or Trey might end up like Sam.

It's not his fault that he was over drafted, got injured twice and was handled poorly. I just hope he never has a big game against the Niners.

I still don't get that comment when people say "He was handled poorly"?? How was he handled poorly, what would you (fans in general) have done different?? Two things that were working against Lance when he got drafted, one was that he was a very inexperienced QB. Two, his contract inflates as soon as he signed it which was pretty much the timer on his development. Then Brock Purdy happened, I don't know any team that would've moved off from a young QB that has the contract of Purdy and go back to their expensive unknown project of a QB.

Yes they signed two veteran QB's and put Lance on the hotseat, but he had every opportunity to beat both of them out and had quite an advantage over both too. Should they have given Lance the #2 job straight out with very little competition and not strengthen the depth behind Purdy and Lance?? Purdy's recovery was an unknown and no one knew what to expect with all the delays in his surgery, signing Darnold was the right move, cause it very well could've been QB1 Lance and QB2 Darnold.

Agree, I don't see any mishandling either. The only thing I can see being mishandled is the misunderstanding of Trey's durability. In other words, the reason they took a swing and a miss on Trey with three first round picks is because of Jimmy's atrocious durability issues. Unfortunately, they chose a player with the same terrible durability issues as Jimmy. It's my hope that Trey's durability issues are over and he'll play for a long time, but other than just taking a bad guess on Trey's durability, they did everything they could to help Trey and Develop Trey.

The chances of any player, let alone a QB, developing into a bonafide NFL star after flaming out like a bag of Cheetos following not one, not two, but three Training Camps is pretty rare. In fact, I don't believe this type of scenario has ever taken place. I could be wrong and if I am, someone please correct me. But Trey Lance was given multiple opportunities to run the show in Santa Clara, and he managed to fumble each and every one.

Now, there are great stories like Jim Plunkett, who was given up on in both New England and San Francisco, but took full advantage of his third opportunity with the Raiders. However, there was never any doubt that Plunkett could play in the NFL. He had his moments. He just got stuck on two brutally bad franchises.

If Trey lasts a full season with Dallas, color me surprised. But he won't be given the multiple opportunities he received in Northern California. That ship has sailed.

Only one worth trading for like that was Lawrence but 99% of players aren't worth that kind of trade up, not just this draft.

if we are being rational, I don't hold Trey accountable for the two first rounders and third that we used to get to 3 overall, I just don't think he was worth third overall alone. Just like McG wasn't worth 9th overall. lol

the trade up was a bust and then the Lance selection was a bust, it is what it is. He sounds like he is in a better space, good for him

We wouldn't have done that one though .

Jimmy is at least solid.

Lol true. I wonder if that is part of what made trading him more complex and difficult. I still feel like the Steelers were tryna trade For him. Would of been a perfect landing spot for him at the time before his surgery was announced
