I think the second most likely scenario is they traded up without a target in mind and wanted to further evaluate the three prospects (mostly Jones and Lance).
This line of thinking has absolutely never made a lick of sense to me. Wasnt a single mock draft that had Jones going anywhere close to 3rd until we made the trade to move up.

Agree. Could have had him at 12 or moved up a few spots on draft day (for much less) if they got nervous about another team looking at Jones.

This is correct. Everyone in the NFL knew it was Lawrence and Wilson going 1 and 2.

Really a weird thought considering he was drafted in the middle of the 1st round. Justin Fields was drafted 11th and was mocked as high as 2 by some.
Not sure what to tell you.
*There was belief at the time that the Panthers were interested in Jones at the 8 spot. That would make sense given we tried to trade into multiple spots before that selection, and also the fact that the Panthers also appeared to pivot and trade for Darnold quickly after our trade.

Already provided multiple links that show otherwise. Keep ignoring them on the basis that some 49ers fans wanted Wilson, lol. They likely weren't paying attention to the rest of the league, which is very common around here.

Like I said, no one had Jones going anywhere close to 3 until we made the trade. The bolded doesnt refute that in the slightest bit.

Safe to say now the biggest bust in NFL history.
Never had so much draft capital been given up for a bust...
Worst trade now in NFL history as well...

I used links based on before the trade happened
no other QB was on the 49ers radar more than ZW before the trade
no other QB was worth trading up for not named Trevor or Zach

You can keep saying this but that's not correct. I used links from the day the trade was made. Review them again if you need to.

They tried to trade into other spots above 8 and below 3, lol.
This just isn't a serious point.

Pretty rich considering you only posted a 49ers blog article to support your point and were incorrect on basic information like Kyle attending Wilson's pro day. The only other thing you've referenced is webzone conversations among 49ers fans which is effectively worthless.

Here's 230+ pages that support Jets weren't a lock for ZW before and the days after the trade. yeah you get one or two guy saying no way, but you got nearly ten times as much people believing we might get him.
