Dallas Cowboys QB Trey Lance Thread

Shop 49ers game tickets
From what i keep hearing practice after practice. This is the most excited i've been in a long time for preseason so Lance can prove that he can replicate all of this in a real game.

We should all pump the breaks on anointing Trey, and just enjoy his ascension as it happens without forcing Trey into a category he has not earned, yet. Reports have been amazing. He will be "it" soon. Jimmy should be the starter, and if Trey unseats him, then amazing. But lets remember, no rookie QB has ever won a Super Bowl. This team is primed to win a SB now.

No such thing as - Jimmy should be the starter.

Why?

...and just bc no rookie QB has ever won a SB means nothing - Trey Lance is a rookie QB for the first time and he is on a loaded team. How many rookie QBs land on a loaded roster. How many rookie QBs look as good as Lance has so far?!?

Also - Jimmy G has never won a SB - so why should be penciled in as a starter?

No team had played a super bowl with home field advantage. Until last year. Just cause it hasn't happened doesn't mean it can't happen.

Prior to the Bucs win last year, we won it at Stanford which was pretty darn close

And no team had ever come back from a 25 point deficit nor had a Super Bowl ever gone to OT, yet both of those happened in the same game.

Jimmy has won two Super Bowls. He didn't play but he did win 2.

lol ????

My point is, there are guys in the 2nd unit probably aren't familiar with the plays or verbiage even less than Lance, so he has to be on top of them more.

Bro you're way off on this. 2nd stringers play a lot of snaps in the NFL. Injuries happen - players come out for a play or two. You guys talkin' about 2nd stringers like they're about to be cut. And during the camp - 2nd stringers are trying to take over the job of the 1st stringers - they're the hunters and 1st teamers are hunted. Makes no difference when you're making throws in tight windows or 45-50 yard TD bombs.

You guys were dismissing Trey bc he played at NDSU. Now, he is doing it in the training camp and you guys are like - oh 2nd stringers. C'mon - give the dude his flowers and he is gonna take over the team way sooner than you think. He's soon gonna be doing the same thing to 1st teamers and on Sundays. Watch - I ain't going nowhere.

I lol'ed at your well placed gif, not your take on Lance. You are triggered on Lance too easily. I'm actually Lance's biggest fan since before they took him at #3

He had bits and pieces pro version of the NFL playbook in college so it's not surprising he already seemed functional early in Kyle's offense as compared to guys like Lawrence, Wilson, Field.

Big Ben almost won a SB on a loaded team. Didn't Mark Sanchez almost win the SB as a rookie? Or make it to the AFC championship. It can absolutely happen

I think some of the players are probably just tired of being asked questions about Lance. I mean, Kittle is a good friend of Jimmy, he's going to be very measured in any praise he gives Lance out of respect to his friend. There's also no benefit to anointing a rookie right away.

To the second point, a rookie QB has never won a Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean that one can't win the Super Bowl. The number of rookie QBs that start on good teams is pretty small and it's just not a large enough sample size to make definitive statements about what a rookie QB can or cannot accomplish. Big Ben, Flacco, and Wilson all went deep into the playoffs in their rookie years before losing close games, so it's not like it is impossible.

Your point is true. But it's risk assessment. Rookies historical inability to win SB's has nothing to with talent, and everything to do with experience. It's risky starting a rookie who has no experience while on a team primed to win. Trey barely has college football experience. He does have tremendous talent. What Trey needs is to gain experience, which is why it's unlikely Shanahan starts him this year. This team is primed right now to win, and asking a rookie QB to lead a team to a SB is a massive challenge. Plus rookie's SB records is highly distinguishable from why a team had never had home field advantage in a SB. Home field advantage was a fluke, while many of the greatest NFL QBs ever started as rookies and failed to take their teams to the SB. If Shanny thinks Trey is the best man for the job, Trey will start. It's just unlikely.

That and the new rookie wage scale has made a rookie QB winning a super bowl a thousand times more likely. No team selecting a QB high on the draft pre wage scale had a chance to win the Super Bowl because they had no cap room.

Now they do. And now we do.

How much experience is Trey going to get on the bench?

Not triggered at all my man. Just saying - 2nd stringers are not guys who won't make the roster or see plenty of snaps in the regular season.
