Same man
I wouldn't feel this way if we didn't have Kyle. But man, he made Jimmy Gs numbers look a lot better than the quarterback he is. Imagine what the ceiling is with a guy as gifted as Lance.

So hyped
Wasn't who I thought they were gonna go for, but hes a 49er now!! Lets go Trey Lance!!

the double standards are funny.

Haha Jones averaged like 350 yards and 3 touchdowns per game in the sec west while winning a championship...

Lance last 4 games he averaged like 90 yards a game passing and 40 rushing yards playing against future office workers...

Trying to jump to "double standards" is an embarrassing take with context...

Lmao was Lance throwing to two top 10 picks at WR on the most stacked team in the country too?

Any of the top 5 QBs in this draft would have put up the same numbers if they were throwing to one of two WRs with 4 yards of separation every play. Waddle and Devonta Smith were literally uncoverable.

I'll take the guy with all the potential in the world over the very average prospect with a barely average arm and no athleticism whatsoever. Especially with Shanahan running the show.

It wasn't even a smokescreen. The 49ers did what San Diego did a few years ago, simply said nothing and allowed the media to run wild.

Agreed.

I think it's awesome that Lance genuinely didn't know he was getting picked and found out when he got the phone call. Must've been an awesome feeling compared to Lawrence or Wilson who knew where they were going for a while.

I can't do anything but root for the kid and hope Kyle coaches him into a pocket passer. I have serious concerns with his accuracy and lack of touch and his run first attitude. I'm hopeful Jimmy stays another 2 years which would give lance the time to develop.

If he turns great, beautiful. If not, i want shanahan fired.

I am getting tired of reading posts talking about firing Shanahan. The draft is something of a lottery. The whole of football knows this. By trading up and going for the guy with the highest ceiling, the team have done what they can to improve the odds on success. Personally Shanahan and Lynch have gone up in my estimation for identifying the problem and taking great steps to deal with it.

Top head coaches are hard to come by. Surely the two decades prior to the hiring of Shanahan shows that? Success in the NFL comes from finding a top coach, surrounding him with high calibre people and then being patient. If this pick turns out to have been a mistake, it was a failure of action rather than inaction. Having seen so many posters calling for Shanahan to be fired if they drafted Jones, it becomes clear now that sacking people has become the immediate response to setbacks. This is not in my opinion a recipe for anything other than mediocrity .

Fields and Jones also face the possibility of failure.

I think the more pertinent thing to wonder about is how they will operate in the pros (particularly Jones without his fellow 5 1st rounders).

Point being is you can toss all those beautiful stats in the trash,...which is why he lasted till 15 and perhaps would've much longer if the Patriots werent desperate.

This is a wonderful post. The reactionary responses here are an extension of our society. It would be funny if it wasn't tragic.

I figured it would be Fields, with Lance as option 1b. Am I worried Lance will bust? Sure am. I would have the same worry with anyone taken at the top of the draft--Trevor and Zach included. I mean, seriously, just look at that dude Solomon we used the number three pick on

Weird how he was way better in the first half of 2019 and really hard to watch though the fcs playoffs...

I think Kyle really messed up... Lance can't even consistently hit swing routes with out them having to turn around...

Mac's tape was a machine hitting every player in stride...
Shanahan messed up so hard... Stay at 12... Get Mac Jones... was the play...

If you want to feel positive.. only watch the first half... If you want to see how bad we fudged our franchise... Watch the last 1/3...

Also he looks slow against this competition in traffic... Less twitch then fields... Seems like a jed pick full of eq

I wouldn't worry too much. Kyle knows offense and can design his system to maximize Treys talent and minimize any issues he has. Look what he did for Nick and Jimmy. Keep in mind if he is a bust, you have Jimmy *and* a decent athletic backup QB and you can try again next year.

Trey will take some time to get caught up in the NFL, but Kyle doesn't need a Mac Jones at #3, he needs a transcendent player for all that value he gave up. Its up to Kyle and Trey to start the hard work of developing and take it one step at a time. Its a gamble, but if this pans out, Kyle has a generational QB that could dominate the NFL like Aaron Rodgers, Luck, Steve Young, and the Mannings. We shall see.
