Something I think Lance can work on is blitz recognition and throwing into the hot route. I don't know why KC was blitzing so much during preseason but it was good to get that on film for Lance to work on. It should hopefully get better with experience and film study

A rookie took 4 sacks and missed some throws, and made some throws, plus 1 (long) TD. That is avg at best. One cannot look at that display and predict anything with certainty about the future. Things can go either way.
What we saw, is what we have.

Where was it though? It looked like a lot of the plays were schemed for him to showcase his arm, and KC was bringing blitzes, but we rarely had a guy underneath, and Sermon was mostly forced to block (I'm guessing bc KS wants to see how he does in that role) so he had very little options to check down.

Yeah, the OL was complete trash for the most part. The receivers did him no favours either with those drops. He does look promising though.

I'm glad we still have Jimmy, Lance isn't ready and needs to develop this season on the bench. Can't wait to see him dominate in 2022.

And he didn't have any designed runs or scrambles that would have changed many of the down and distance situations. I like what I saw. It needs to be a competition now officially and I'm very eager to see him play against the Chargers' first team defense, but with Trent Williams, Kittle, etc.

it was about 4:30 seconds in the every Trey Lance play preseason video. 2nd and 7 Gallman motioned to the left and KC brought 5. He got sacked on that play. Lance had Gallman in the middle. If lance was able to recognize the blitz a bit earlier he could have possibly hit him and either gotten the conversion or a more reasonable third down. But something that impressed me on that play was it looked like he saw Gallman was open and was about to fire it but He realized he didn't have the time and instead protected the ball and ate the sack. Showed some maturity there as most young qbs would still try to make that play Anyways and end up with a turnover.
Thats what it looked like to me anyways I could be wrong.

Interesting, this film is more reminiscent of Wilson's film from yesterday than Trey's. For both Wilson and Mahomes, it seems the playcalling allowed for more checkdowns and underneath stuff that you will typically see in a live regular season game. In Trey's case, the offense was mostly very vanilla and he was up against a much more aggressive defense than you typically see in the preseason.
It's a little early to do the Mahomes comparison, but it kinda looks like Trey is a different type of QB. Mahomes/Wilson look to play a bit looser and are more "free spirited" in that they don't mind going off schedule sooner than later. Whereas Trey seems to really want to execute within the confines of the offense unless everything absolutely breaks down. I don't think either way is better than the other, there's pros/cons to each approach. Given his style based on this performance, I would say Trey reminds me more of a young Steve Young than I thought he would, and that is pretty exciting.

Definitely some not so great reads but I love his confidence and once he gets a better feel for the game I think he will be excellent. He can make all the throws. I would also be curious to see what he would look like with guys like Kittle, Deebo and Aiyuk. In my opinion yesterday's game was not in any way a typical game plan for us. Went away from the run and I think Shanahan wanted to get a ton of plays on tape to study and correct.
Excited for the future and also happy that Jimmy is still here because we have a damn good team that can win now.

Yes. And I'm extremely excited about what we have and what we saw. The game's not played in a vacuum. If the orders from the coach was to not take off, and if the blocking stunk,...then these are things to be considered. Not by you, mind you. But recognize that others are entitled to include it in their synopsis of "what we have."

Obviously the deep TD throw was the "highlight" of the game, but those two out routes are money makers. Particularly the one to Cracraft, because it was from the hash to the opposite side of the field, outside the numbers. No DB in the league can cover that.
Agreed
