Don't fret - he'll be ready.

dissecting preseason tape is so worthless
I'm sure the team doesn't do it, because it's so worthless.
the big difference is the team understands what the focus of any given play entailed.
That's true for the regular season as well, so how is looking at the film in the preseason any different? Or is dissecting regular season film worthless as well? All football discussion is kind of worthless unless you're on a team or making a living from it.

Teams are not running real schemed defense, or offense, in the preseason.

In 2019, the 49ers threw for 3978 yards and 27 TDs, and Garoppolo threw 13 INTs
Daniel Brunskill on Garoppolo and Lance: "We can run our offense through both of them. Jimmy has run Trey's plays before. Trey can run the whole offense." #49ers

I'm going to guess that when Kyle was drawing up all of those plays for Lance while on the flight back from Fields' pro day he wasn't thinking "I'm sure I can run this play with Jimmy too…"

Everyone here should be rooting for Trey to earn the starting spot sooner rather than later. And it has nothing to do with knocking Jimmy.
Trey's very presence on this Shanahan offense heightens its ceiling by leaps and bounds because of the threat he poses to defenses as a potential ball carrier every snap. We can play 11 on 11 football in the run game with Trey in a way that we simply can't with Jimmy. You simply cannot discount how important an advantage this is for Kyle and McDaniels as playcallers.
This is the reality whether you like Jimmy (like I do) or not. Its not a knock against him or his abilities. Its an endorsement of what extra advantages Trey brings to our offense. So, the moment it appears Trey looks comfortable facing NFL defenses is the moment he should be given the starting nod.
