We spent three first round draft picks on him
Dang right we're excited about him until he gives us reason to not be

As were BeatHard and Mullens. Maybe this is becoming a coaching issue that we're now just seeing.
If this was a drilled in coaching focus, all would look similar in how they navigate the pocket. Instead, it looks like a total free-for-all...each looked totally different from the other.

Because the criticisms of Lance ignore the reality that the gap between him and Jimmy is small and it is shrinking. Not because Lance is great. Because Jimmy isn't.
People pretending like Lance starting would be any worse than 2020 Jimmy with his second worst INT% in the NFL (behind only Nick Mullens). The only way Jimmy is clearly and obviously better, as opposed to just a little better, is if Jimmy takes a big step forward.
So far in camp and preseason he has not.

Is Shanny going to give an official update on Trey's finger?

I don't want to turn this into another Jimmy discussion but I can't help ask why you're bringing up 2020 Jimmy when the one and a half worth of games he was healthy he didn't turn the ball over at all?
And before people run in here to remind everyone that despite the lack of turnovers Jimmy wasn't lights out vs Arizona I will once again remind the same people he was out there with the 3rd string C and no Aiyuk or Deebo.
We need to trust Shanahan in doing what's best for the team and for Lance long term. We know Jimmy isn't a top tier QB which is why we drafted Lance to replace him but he's also not a total scrub so no need to paint him as such. I'd much rather Trey replace the best Jimmy Garoppolo vs the worst one.
IMO if Jimmy is healthy he can be a better QB than he was in 2019 which is certainly good enough to lead this team to wins.

Said breakdown
Kurt pretty much summed up everything we've been discussing the last few weeks: Trey's footwork stinks at times, and he's either not seeing the field well or not trusting what he's seeing on too many throws, which is causing him to double clutch, be late and/or inaccurate.
I'm excited to see him get better because we know he's got the work ethic.
I agree with all this…what's funny though, is Jimmy's footwork also stinks, he doesn't see the field well, he double clutches and is late/high on this throws too…not as consistently as Lance but he's far from a polished QB.

How could it be a coaching issue? These were the knocks on Lance coming out of college. Beathard similarly had concerns about pocket presence and footwork.
If anything it's more of a player evaluation issue and drafting/signing guys that they believe they can fix.

CJ and Mullens were subpar to bad talents overall…not sure what people were realistically expecting from them? Jimmy's issues were the same in NE. I got plenty of local camp reports from NE with Jimmy. Sometimes that's just who they are.

The topic wasn't on talent but signs of their mechanics being coached up consistently to where you can tell across all 4. And all 4 continue to struggle with it here.

mullens lookd far better here and put together a pretty good string on games in the regular season compared to his performance in Phi preseason against backups
