What position/player did you value more than G at that point? And what was your plan to address a wide open 1K-snap hole at RG that needs a starter?

Ojulari or Marshall. Meinerz instead of Sermon in the 3rd. Who says no?

You're not allowed to use hindsight, buddy. LOL

Isn't that all you have been using about Tristan Wirfs instead of a run stopping DT.

Would have taken Samuel instead of moving down. Would have taken Marshall over banks would have taken Creed , boogie, moldin etc…

you can't tell me Kendrick Green is 40 picks worse then Banks.

most people didn't have a top 50 grade on Banks.

NC doesn't care as long as it's IOL…he thinks it's a win, regardless of positional value and who else was there. Which is a problem imo.

I've also said you don't have to spend a top 64 pick on a guard to get successful play there. There's a s**t ton of examples of that across the league including the top graded OG this past yr (teller 5th rd).

IF you're gonna spend that type of capital he better be a f**king stud from day 1.

No....no it didn't. They are second biggest reason why the 49ers lost the superbowl.

That position got upgraded too... Thankfully

Lol I mean I love how it's just Wirfs never mind the fact that NC also wanted Ruiz and Thomas.

and I would have taken any of those dudes you meanioned over Banks in the 2nd.

Right. So anything but a G there. Good thing the FO thought better. But if he sucks, I'll gladly eat crow on this one.

Haha. You wish.
I liked the Banks pick because I do think it fills an important positional need and he has some upside in pass protection but Asante Samuel Jr was there and fit our defense as well.

I'm happy that we acquired more picks and traded up for Sermon. Before the draft I predicted we would take an offensive weapon higher than most assumed we would and we did. Sermon was in my only mock so I'm happy we got him.

I don't think I would change our first 3 selections this past draft.

Right no OG there BECAUSE there wasn't a OG WORTH a top 50 pick...how hard is that to get?

Dude I don't want to be an ass but I'm sure when he was drafted your were like...who? oh an IOL he must be good.

Oh I would have. I don't hate Banks or Trey..I get the picks and think they will be fine.

IMO there were better players to be had and guys that played the same positions drafted later with better value. Overall outside of Lance I wasn't a massive fan of this draft. As long as he turns into a FQB that's all that matters
Banks is the one pick that I questioned originally because he wasn't a scheme fit IMO and he was rated as a 3rd round prospect at best. That said, I think the Niners picked him for one reason and that was his pass protection. We all know, that our interior OL has been a sieve the past two years since Richburg went down and Person was average at best. With Mack now and Banks, the pass protection should be much better.

I still question how this kid will perform in the running game. He's a decent athlete, but not exceptional. He's huge and should be able to maul smaller DT's. Maybe Shanahan will make some scheme changes to accentuate this kid's skill set. My hope is he will win the starter's job at RG over Brunskill so we can move Brunskill back to his utility role. Reserving judgement till I see what happens in training camp.

But you, like NY, would never VALUE a G that high, hence why you have different position values than our own FO. And that starts with an archaic take on the position.

Not true. It depends on the player. Like NY i am a bit concerned about Banks but i'm willing to see what he has.

I actually wanted our first round pick in 2012 to be Kelechi Osemele.

It's about the player and their value in comparison to other players. It's also about the cost in free agency relative to other positions.

Once you saw he was available on draft day. Pre draft it was all Cesar Ruiz all the time. The guy that let Drew Brees get killed by a backup nobody.
