Where does the addition of Davis-Price leave Sermon? He'll have the chance to be part of that one-two punch Shanahan spoke of, but will obviously have to earn his place.

"We thought he had a chance last year, got banged up, was a little bit behind," Shanahan said. "But I don't think he can't do it this year. So to add more competition to him, having guys like Jeff Wilson, Hasty, guys on our roster, and now adding Ty with what Elijah did last year... We're a running team. We like to run the ball. Anytime you have a chance to get a good back, if that is what's best for your team compared to all the other positions, I don't think you can ever go wrong with a back."
"I think we envision a great role for Trey Sermon going forward, for Jeff Wilson," Lynch said. "There's plenty of room for these guys. And most seasons we've used four, we've used five. We emphasize the run game here. We want versatile backs, and I think we have that with our collection of guys, and we're excited about that group."

I think Trey Sermon will surprise people this year. I'm pulling for him. I hope he's healed from his injuries, and I think coming into training camp, he should have the edge in knowing the offense better than the rookie RB's the 49ers got this year. I think his 2nd year jump will surprise people.

Wasn't quite sure what the Sermon pick meant last yr. Now with our new additions at RB, it appears Kyle is getting ready to show off his power (man) blocking and like BB, run both ZBS and Man blocking this yr. One can only hope.

I think Sermon (if he can be a bit more productive on the run) is a lock as a starting running back with Mitchell. He averaged 10+ yards per catch in college. He's a big guy that can run over people, but where I was really impressed was with his pass catching abilities. Interesting fact - Trey Sermon averaged 6.5 yards per carry in college and Tyrion Price averaged 4.6. Sermon is supposedly a better runner than Tyrion - from the college stats I saw. I think Sermon was supposed to be RB 1 vs Mitchell who would be RB 2, but it turned out that RB 1 was Mitchell but he wasn't big enough to stay healthy.

With three good RB's, and two of them big backs, I think Anthony Lynn is right - they should be healthier at the RB position this year. Mitchell is also going to play 15+ pounds heavier too - at 215 lbs. vs 200 lbs. that he played at last year.

With the injuries he sustained as a rookie, Mitchell is reportedly looking to bulk up to 215-pounds from 200.

I'm betting on Sermon being one of the players who makes a big leap from year 1 to year 2. Any reports on him about how he looks or anything else out of OTAs?

I hope you're right. If he can and all of them improve their blocking we can free up Kittle to add to the attack.

how huge would that be? we've gotten way too used to having Kittle in to block on a key 3rd down

I think it's really gonna be a three headed committee with Mitchell, TDP, and Sermon

Haven't really seen anything about him.

Hopefully he won't play scared again this season.

I think they drafted Sermon to run more inside zone when Trey was playing QB, then he didn't get to play much last year.

they want an inside zone RB period they had to use Deebo in that role last year

Sermon has potential but he dances in backfield too much they want a 1 cut and go guy which is why they went after TDP they will let them play it out for that role
Listening to Jack Hammer, he for RB1 reps and fumbled his first carry

Yeah. Fighting that instinct to dance has to be one of the toughest things to overcome in the transition from college to NFL. The thing that worked for years against high school and college defenses gets you tackled for a loss in the NFL.

Agree - it's so frustrating do dance and get nailed immediately.

just the SEA game:

I'd say the runs at 0:45, 1:08, and 1:30 are the only examples of some indecision, but two of those seemed like poorly blocked plays. He doesn't seem to have burst like what I'm used to seeing from Kyle's RBs. Overall he looked fine in this game imo.

I wonder if Sermon was a Bobby Turner pick. Now that he retired, Kyle is like, "ok let's get my own power RB" (enter TDPrice).
