That is my take as well.

He has looked good on occasion but then he misses reads or makes the wrong choice on others. He just is not as consistent as he should be this far into his career. At this point, Mason looks like the better power runner and too good to risk on the Practice Squad. He makes my 53 and Sermon absorbs the risk.

He, at least, will add some long term depth if he's IR'd. I think they can be put back on the team after 8+ weeks or so. At about that time (or a little bit later), everybody in the NFL has assorted dents and dings, and 49ers wouldn't be any different.

I'm still disappointed in the fact that he didn't take a typical 2nd year leap in improvement the way most typical rookies do. I don't see him being here next year - to tell you the truth. I don't see him even making the team - if he's not IR'd.
Never understood the Sermon pick from the gitgo; still don't. He should be the next cut at RB. Price is better. Hasty's better. Mason is certainly better. KS is usually an astute evaluator of RB's. That's why the Sermon choice is so perplexing!

Seems like they made that draft pick based on 1 game.

I think they were hoping he would splatter defenders in a power role.. just hasn't happened yet.. the TDP pick may have been them waiving the white flag here.. need physicality in the RB rotation
I'd love to see a Trey Sermon for Amari Rodgers trade. Both were drafted rd 3 last year and been extremely disappointing. I truly think both would be better fits in the other's scheme. Sermon simply is not a fit for the zone scheme and Rodgers is about WR5/6 on the depth chart after they added Doubs / Watson.

Rodgers will be our depth for Deebo's role which we don't have anyone else on the roster who can provide that, even to a lesser degree.
Put more weight on him, teach him how to block. Turn him into a FB
Say a prayer for my boy Sermon

Amari Rodgers that plays for GB? How is that a different scheme for him?

I mean GB pretty much runs our offense and they have a HOF level QB. If Rodgers isn't producing there it's definitely not an issue of needing a different scheme.

If we're trading Sermon it should either be for a future pick or see if we can bring in an OLman worth making our roster but if Sermon doesn't make the 53 here it means we have someone who should make it instead of him. Can't give away that spot to someone who hasn't been in this building.
dude doesn't have much trade value
Still ragging on Sermon?

As Kruger mentioned Sermon is a back that needs to be feed to produce as he did in college, at least 15-20+ runs.

David Lombardi still has him penciled on his 53, and Hasty on the bubble and Mason to the PS. Lombardi's take is much more consistent than hacks like cohn and Chapman etc who's high on Hasty who has already proven unproductive vs NFL starters in the past 2 seasons and have dropped passes as a 3rd down back and is near useless as a runner.

How about CHI? Maybe Justin Fields will vouch for him (college teammates). Agree, he doesn't have much value, if any.
