Hasty is definitely useless on this team now, Sermon apparently isn't as good as TDP or Mason in Kyle and Lynch's evaluation and outlook going forward.

Useless to a degree. Him being initially on the 53 just says (to me) that maybe they would've given him a couple more months to show something due to where he was drafted, even if Hasty was currently the more useful player.

Higher picks generally are initially dealt with with a little more patience than UFAs.

Hasty is pretty useless and overrated himself.

Kyle must have seen enough to know that Sermon wasn't a good fit for his system. Maybe he'll do better with a different style of offense.

Hasty look good running and catching. Was a dumb cut. Don't humor the guy. He's the only one trashing hasty.

agree... cutting hasty who was productive. keeping sermon who did nothing.. losing hasty and then cutting sermon...... it is not a kiss of death for a franchise.. but it is just super dumb to me the way they did it.

We cut jamychal to keep trey. Jamychal is way better. Then we cut serman next day. Huh? Makes no sense.why do we do stuff like this.

The reason why things seem this way to you is because you are viewing things thru the wrong side of the binoculars.

Everything has a pecking order. Especially once you are down to the last 5 or so spots on your team (e.g., 49-53).

Once you are in that range with a talented roster, then position be damned. You just want guys that you feel can eventually contribute to the team and you'd like to keep away from other teams possibly stealing.

So Sermon gets cut for that very reason. Forget how many RBs we have on the roster at that stage and remember that you like to keep a [previous year's] 3rd rd. pick on your PS if possible at that stage when bottom line is Sermon's @ spot #53.

The moment we find someone that we feel can contribute to the team more than he can,....he gone and player #52 moves to #53.

Those body counts @ particular positions matter once you get higher on the depth chart. Stuff that was generally looked at and arranged a long time ago.

Also we have no clue what goes on behind closed doors. A team like the Ravens might have called the 49ers Monday night inquiring about a trade for Sermon. Teen the next day a guy like Kenyon Drake gets released and now they go with Drake bc they dont have to give up anything. Then the Niners are stuck with Sermon who they thought would be able to squeeze a late pick for.

Humor nothing. Hasty is useless, he won't amount much in JAX, don't believe it check his stats at the end of this season. Sermon might still do okay somewhere else, that's the difference between those 2 backup rbs who are cut and gone now for very different reasons.

The FO should just avoid using anything more than 6th rounders on RBs at this point.
On day 2 you're getting the Joe Williams and Trey Sermon,
while day 3 and undrafted pool you get the Mitchells, Jeff Wilson, Breida or Mason.
They also must stay away from overpaying FA backs like Mckinnon and Coleman. Just pick a random journeyman and you could possibly get a Mostert.
But you need to be deep, because last season by week 3 the "deep" backfield was reduced to a concussed Sermon and Jaques Patrick.
"General Manager John Lynch said that it was never realistic to think that the 49ers would keep five running backs on the roster for the long term and that the ultimate decision came down to Sermon or undrafted free agent Jordan Mason for the last spot. Lynch noted that Sermon struggled as a rookie, but that he'd improved a great deal since joining the team.

Ultimately, however, the 49ers saw Mason as player who "runs in our style" and performed at a high enough level that it became impossible to cut him."

Again HASTY wasn't even part of the 49ers' 53 men equation, Hasty is useless like I have said.

John Lynch said that he'll be back on the PS if he isn't claimed.

He might have a chance to start there because I think Sanders is one of the most overrated RB's in the league. And Gainwell is decent but not a true #1 back.
Hope he does well there.
It's kind of strange that in a league where players have so much power and the ability to demand trades and opt for free agency that they are totally under control of any team that claims them off waivers. They can't refuse and go back on waivers.

Sanders is a good player. Just has to stay healthy.
