He has all the ideal traits for a Kyle offense:

  • Composite explosion grade
  • 10-yard split
  • 3-cone

And he may not have timed a very fast 40, but it seems like he carries the pads well.

Not really seeing the Foster or Gore comparisons. His speed is much better than there's. I see a strong resemblance to Mostert with his acceleration and burst through the hole. I think Sermon has elite level balance and he's so slippery in traffic. He's elusive, yet has the ability to go through DBs. Gore had that too, just without the same level of speed.

Everyone knocked Sermon for his speed during the draft process. That's a big reason he fell a little. Injuries contributed a little as well, but Sermon's game speed is up there with anyone's. His style is perfect for our system.
his speed/burst is nowhere close to Mostert. Foster and Hunt are better comps imo. Balance/footwork are right on par with those two.

What's Mostert's 10 yard?

Mostert and Sermon both had a 1.49 10 yard split at their pro day.

Thanks! :)

No problem... anytime.

Only thing missing is giving yourself the shake weight
Sermon may be a candidate for rookie of the year. Kyle FINALLY has a high end toy to play with.

I'm very excited to see him play. I hope the best for Lance and looking forward to seeing him play but I really believe this kid will be great this year. We absolutely need a dominant run game to make Shanny offense click. Can't wait.

I see it more like this, we have a dominant run game from Kyle making ice cream out of salted butter. Mostert and Wilson run very well...in this offense, but just like Breida, they would not succeed as RBs on most NFL teams. With Sermon, Kyle can sit back and let Sermon take it to another level by running with power and agility while slowly wearing the defense down.

Mostert and Wilson don't necessarily wear a defense down. Defense do get frustrated due to the speed, but nobody hesitates or eventually is afraid to tackle these guys.

I see your point in general on Sermon and Mostert but give Wilson a little more credit, dude runs hard as hell and breaks plenty of tackles -- his deficiency is really that he lacks the speed to really threaten the edge, but his strength is his ruggedness and tough running style.

I see it like this somewhat as well. They expect him to be a more sturdy, little less electric Mostert. Mostert just cannot stay healthy.
I think Sermon will do fine, I just feel like it was a big time reach in the 3rd. And my last memory of Sermon was his one carry then to the locker room game vs Bama.

Mostart runs so fast that once he breaks into the clear, a lot of the time none of the defensive backs are fast enough to get an angle on him. That probably won't happen as often with Sermon but Sermon may make up for it by muscling over guys more. Mostart is more of a home run hitter but Sermon could easily end up with more yards for the season. It seems like Sermon is pretty good at catching passes and YAC, too. It isn't that Mostart is bad at catching ball, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sermon ends up being a better receiver - which Shanahan would love to take advantage of. I think they are going to be very complementary and probably a lot of fun to watch - if, as you say, Mostart can stay healthy and if Sermon can get the playbook down reasonably quickly.

Not about talent for Mostert. If he stays healthy he can ball. Its that he can't. Same story of the entire draft, get guys with talent so we don't have to wonder if guys like Mostert or Jimmy can stay healthy long term.
