RB Trey Sermon

He might be the steal of our draft. He has very quick vision and a hitters body. If these things can make the adjustment to the speed of NFL defenses, we got a steal indeed. With teams around the league switching to lighter linebackers to cover the passing game, this kid lives in their zone. He's gonna feast!

Hyde was about 230lbs at the combine, he was bigger. They both have great contact balance and strength to get YAC. I wouldn't called Hyde explosive at all though, sermon is (neither have that long speed). Hyde doesn't have those dynamic cuts that Sermon does. I feel like Sermon has better vision then Hyde did. How often did we see Carlos miss lanes and run into his blockers

I keep coming back to Kareem hunt for a comp of Sermon....not sure he's as good of a pass catcher, but we will see.

Sermon has elite burst....just as good as Mostert which is ridiculously good. Timed in the 94 Percentile since the 10 yard split has been timed and I believe that might be over a decade worth of players analytics. 😳

He has elite contact balance
He has an elite straight arm

thats good enough for me to be starting next year if Mostert is gone (and rotating in this year as our rb2)

RBs have the least amount of learning curve he could start this year but mostert at this pint is just too good (when healthy)

but i agree we drafted 2 RB this year because i believe the plan is to move on from mostert and Wilson at the end of the season

Agree with everything you said — he also has really nice vision and cuts at the second level for his size. I think that's where some see Gore, who also just had a knack for making guys miss despite not being "twitchy"

Very true. Mostert is a home run threat every time he has the ball in his hands. That 70+ yard catch vs the Cardinals week 1 (I think second play of the game) followed by that 70+ yard run week 2 vs the jets (first play of the game) should say it all.

I concur such good vision.

OUCHHH !!

Ricky was a wayyyyyyyyyyyy better athlete... Trey " The Priest" Sermon looks heavy and does not have the waist that Ricky had..

He looks better than Watters coming out of the draft, let's just let him preach his own sermon, and see how that turns out.

I wonder if Sermon would be drafted in the first round if this were 15 years ago.

That's a good question. The homer in me says no question

15 years ago we drafted Frank Gore third round. Hall of Fame back

and he was graded as a 1st round talent but teams were scared to draft him high because of his injuries in college.

I think they'll try to re-sign Wilson, I think Mostert is gone, he'll want too much, we already saw how he wanted a pay raise after 1yr into the 3yr deal. Wilson is younger, a much stronger runner, I like Wilson a lot, but we'll see. For sure Sermon & Mitchell will be here in 2022, it's why I believe Mitchell is pretty much a lock for the 53 this year, can return, catch out of backfield, fast, good runner, and if waived, he won't make it to the PS.
It's not the running production that will decide if Mostert starts, it will be if Sermon can show that he can pass protect.

So many people dont understand how important pass blocking and understanding how to chip and leak out are. That's why T. Coleman got so many snaps. I'm glad you mentioned it

Agreed. It's cliche but he reminds me so much of Gore. His highlight tape is full of the most impressive 8 yard runs you'll ever see. Makes defenders miss in a phone booth and always gets a couple more yards than he should. The fact that he has that Alvin Kamara-like contract balance is super intriguing too.

Yup.

And that's what rookie RBs have a hard time getting adjusted to.
