He is slow ran a 4.6 forty. He is not going to be a home run hitter. He always falls forward and he is going to churn out a bunch of 6yd runs and he will have at least 3 catches a game. Not a big fan of the pick but I believe he will be a solid player.

Yea I'm not looking for home run speed just hitting the holes faster and making cuts. I was 50/50 on the pick. I like Sermon as a player just felt the team could've addressed another need. I think he'll be fine

He caught the ball really well and pushed the pile but he danced a little too much. Kinda reminded me of Mike Davis. He's a little too dependent on his ability to make guys miss in short spaces. Instead of just making his cut and going fast.

He might be better running behind a "Levon Bell in Pit" kind of scheme.

Said better than me.

I would agree as well. He isn't the home run hitter type but he certainly seems to fit the mold of an every down type back which could move Mostert into the change of pace role that he would excel in. Let Sermon grind it out for 16-20 runs a game and let Mostert hit the D while they're tired in the late 3rd early fourth before a well rested Sermon comes in to grind the clock out.

I skimmed through Bell (PIT) highlights and Sermon college highlights and I see the similarities. Both guys had the bulk of their good runs using inside zone blocking concepts. PIT also called a good number of gap blocking runs for Bell (not many gap blocking plays for Sermon).

When the 49ers start using Lance in the zone read with inside zone, I think that's when we'll see Sermon in his element. For outside zone, the RB is asked to make one cut and go - no dancing. For inside zone, there can be a bit more dancing in the backfield allowing for those patient runs that Bell is famous for. Sermon displayed some of that in college, but I don't think that level of patient running is for everyone. Bell's ability to stop and start while setting up his blocks is on another level.

I was impressed by him, the fumble it was clear that was when he hurt his hand, but he was fine afterwards, I just wonder how long till he becomes RB1? Not because Mostert sucks, but because Sermon either outplays him, or Mostert gets hurt, and Sermon doesn't let go of the #1 job.

No way this guy ever replaces Mostert. He's there to absorb some of the big hits so Mostert is able to run free.

Mostert isn't immortal, this is his replacement. He's going on 30, and should be up for a contract before long. If he wants more than the team is willing to pay a 30 year old rb, they let him try out free agency and move on if he finds someone willing to pay. It's a business, no matter how much we like the guy.

He's only been a RB for a couple of years and is a very young 29. Doesn't sound like you like him very much. I like his 4.32 speed and his ability to score from anywhere. Sermon is making plenty of rookie mistakes including multiple fumbles.

Yup. I loved the pick. It's obvious Kyle has been searching for a more premiere back and Sermon has that chance.

Wait....people think Sermon could be a premier back?!

I have said this before I didnt watch any of him in college. But really? Thats what people think his ceiling is? That shocks me.

Hey, I like Mostert myself. It's just a fact of the business side that they don't pay huge contracts to running backs on the wrong side of 30. I think the plan is to reduce the carries Mostert gets to keep him from wearing down while bringing Sermon and Mitchell alone for when it's time to move on. There's a reason they drafted two running backs, just like there's a reason they drafted a qb.

Go watch his career highlights. He is a legit prospect. Excellent balance, short area quickness, change of direction, and lateral movement. He's not a burner, but he plays faster than his 40 time. His 10 yard cones time was exactly the same as Mostert put up.

And he is elite at YAC

I didn't track the stats, but almost all of those runs went for 1st downs. Is that just highlights?

I have logged over 1000 days at sea and I can assure you anchors do not run well.
