I think Sermon needs another offseason before he's a major factor. Sucks because we need help at other positions.

Mitchell looked much better than Sermon in his limited touches

Sermon was playing against 1st teams and Mitchell against backups… but I still think it's probably true that Mitchell is more ready to play now.

This really is a great example of why you don't pick RBs early. It's still a crapshoot and you can get good talent later in the draft.

Obviously the 21 draft will be based solely on Lance's success, but they appear to have whiffed on the next three picks. Then found great players in the 5th and 6th round.
I think Mostert (MostHurt as some say) sees the holes opening up better then most. It's just my opinion...

I believe he had 10 yards on his first carry and 9 on his second.

Way too early to say Thomas was a whiff. He missed all of last season so it should be expected that he'd be rusty. Even with Brooks it can take OL's some time to develop but a RB being a healthy scratch is inexcusable.

OL takes time. Few come in and are ready day one. Most seem to be blooming a season or two later.

Doesn't matter, only one of them actually ran with any violence. Sermon slowed down when he anticipated getting hit, that has nothing to do with 1st teamers versus backups. Some posters here attributed it to him saving himself for the regular season, as if an unproven rookie without any tread on the tires should be taking any plays off

Mostert Is special tbf... It's Too bad he's Injury prone though.
People want to come up with reasons when I think it's pretty simple. He clearly had less "juice" than Mitchell and Hasty in preseason running the ball and he's also not a special teams factor.

That's an issue with a lot of college RBs, especially if they come out of programs that are dominant. They often have huge holes to run through so they don't have to hit them as quickly. They close up fas tin the NFL so backs can't afford to dance around unless you're Barry Sanders.

Not if there's a logjam, we only trot 3 guys out there, it's only game 1, you're playing the 32nd ranked defense from last year, and you want to motivate the kid to work harder (same with Aiyuk?).

There's several excuses right there built into 1. If it's week 8 and he hasn't stepped on the field,...completely different context, lol but only given a season opener, there absolutely is no context. Dude could be nicked up a little for all we know (staffs do lie about this stuff). So this kinda rhetoric this early is extreme overreaction at this point IMO.

Some people think Trey Sermon is a bust after Week One. If the rumors are true, Sermon was inactive because he was out with Aiyuk until after the team curfew. Nothing to do with his ability. He looked good in the preseason, making great cuts and running hard. Why on earth would you not have him on the game day roster unless it was an off-the-field issue? Especially now that Mostert is gone.

Watch this week in Philly, Sermon gets 15 carries and rushes for 60 yards and a TD and Aiyuk has 5 catches for 80 yards.
