The coach and GM only put their opinion in on the first few picks. Then they pick off the scouts list.
Trouble is out scouts are way smarter and better at evaluating talent. That's why our late round picks are always better than our early round picks.
It's honestly the only reason we are relevant is the scouts picks have been so good in the late rounds while we miss so hard on the early picks the coaches want.

Mitchell is just that good though. If he wasn't on the team Sermon would be starting over Harris.
I'm assuming you meant Hasty? Sermon is currently not getting snaps over Hasty. That's the part that has me questioning wth Sermon is doing, or not doing, to be so low on the depth chart. The coaches opted to use Juice as a 3rd down back over Sermon, and now Hasty is getting play over Sermon on 3rd downs.

What? Mostert, Mitchell, Wilson, and Hasty are all above Sermon on the depth chart. Pretty much the only time Sermons is getting any snaps is when none of these 4 are available.

I dont understand the Sermon situation at all. Mitchell has been solid, but damn even Derrick Henry's (insert any great starting back you want here) backup gets a few carries most weeks lol. Yes I know Henry is hurt now. Sermon cant even get a snap. Theres no way he is suddenly THAT bad at football.

I keep saying it. Go look at that first NFL carry he had and how hard he ran and fast he accelerated once he got the handoff. Then look at him after that handoff. That hit really messed with his psyche.
Hasty is a 3rd down back
Mitchell is a clone of Mostert
Wilson is backup to Mitchell, vet status
Sermon is odd man out ATM. If he wants a participation trophy for being available and practicing, it's because he obviously hasn't been with this team long enough. He will get his opportunity if he shuts up and earns it. Dude got knocked out in his first carry. Soft. Mitchell doesn't even go down on the first contact.
Maybe Sermon was better suited to be a pastor. Grow a pair and be better than you are and you will earn a place in the lineup.

Yeah I meant Hasty, he reminds me so much of DaJuan Harris lol.
But yes Hasty is on the field on 3rd downs... I haven't seen him get any plays to sub Mitchell on 1st and 2nd downs the past few weeks.
Before Wilson got back... if Mitchell was not active, IMO Sermon would start over Hasty on 1st and 2nd downs.

He's not as much a burner as Mitchell. My theory is these are Lynch picks and not the best fits for Shanahan's system, Banks and Sermon both. Banks and Sermon are better fits if we had Harbaugh as coach. Power run players.

Do you think they use darts on those later round picks ?
Here are all of Sermon's carries vs the Seahawks....started off slow then picked it up, ran for 89yards off 19 carries.. 4.6 yards a carry.
The VERY next week vs the Cards... instead of building off that Hawks game... when we have our rookie QB starting his first ever game... Kyle comes our calling running plays to Deebo, Juice, and Lance...and Mitchell eventually got some carries (9).
Sermon only got ONE carry... and it was for 7 yards. You would think we would come out and ran at them with a mix of Mitchell and Sermon... to slow down that pass rush, and set up some easy passes for Lance of play action.
But nope... many carries for Lance, 9 for Mitchell... 1 for Deebo and one for Kyle.
Yall don't get me wrong, I'm no Sermon fanboy (didn't follow him in college)... I saw something special in Mitchell early on and was hoping he'd get him more carries. Sermon looked slow to me in preseason.
That all being said, I'm just going off what I saw... Sermon looked like he finally got in a groove. Our 3rd Rd pick that we moved up for, finally got in a groove... and what does Kyle do? Doesn't use him at all the next few weeks.

Me too. We're like half way through his rookie season. Wonder what the posts would have been like during Rice's rookie season. Or during Walsh's first season. "Wow why did we hire this clown" and so forth.

He has had some nice runs so I'm not down on him like I am with Banks. Being below Mitchell on the depth chart isn't damning, but being behind Hasty, and a Jeff Wilson that just came back from a major injury, that's alarming.
