I liked what I saw from him in college. So, I still have hope for him.
Me too. We're like half way through his rookie season. Wonder what the posts would have been like during Rice's rookie season. Or during Walsh's first season. "Wow why did we hire this clown" and so forth.
He has had some nice runs so I'm not down on him like I am with Banks. Being below Mitchell on the depth chart isn't damning, but being behind Hasty, and a Jeff Wilson that just came back from a major injury, that's alarming.

Here are all of Sermon's carries vs the Seahawks....started off slow then picked it up, ran for 89yards off 19 carries.. 4.6 yards a carry.
The VERY next week vs the Cards... instead of building off that Hawks game... when we have our rookie QB starting his first ever game... Kyle comes our calling running plays to Deebo, Juice, and Lance...and Mitchell eventually got some carries (9).
Sermon only got ONE carry... and it was for 7 yards. You would think we would come out and ran at them with a mix of Mitchell and Sermon... to slow down that pass rush, and set up some easy passes for Lance of play action.
But nope... many carries for Lance, 9 for Mitchell... 1 for Deebo and one for Kyle.
Yall don't get me wrong, I'm no Sermon fanboy (didn't follow him in college)... I saw something special in Mitchell early on and was hoping he'd get him more carries. Sermon looked slow to me in preseason.
That all being said, I'm just going off what I saw... Sermon looked like he finally got in a groove. Our 3rd Rd pick that we moved up for, finally got in a groove... and what does Kyle do? Doesn't use him at all the next few weeks.
Yeah, I thought the same after the Seahawks game. I think Sermon and Mitchell could provide a nice 1-2 punch, but Sermon has just disappeared. It's disappointing for sure.
My only thought on Sermon , is it's nothing to do with his ability to run. He must be horrible horrible at picking up the blitz. If he can't do that then Kyle won't even consider putting him on the field to get Jimmy or Lance obliterated
i think shanny is so in love with the outside zone and the smell of his own farts that he doesnt realize that he may not be the offensive genius that he has been labeled as if he cant work his 3rd round pick into the game plan.
Someone at one point brought up the fact that they felt guys like Banks and Sermon are more geared to play with Trey Lance. I hope that's the idea here and these guys all become key pieces in our offense moving forward but it's still frustrating especially when Mitchell is out there kicking ass. Just reminds me why I was against taking RB on day 1/2 cuz Shanahan seems to have no problem getting production from late round guys or UDFAs.

So we drafted Sermon and Banks specifically for Lance? What about Thomas? Guess hell play next year with Lance. Thats utterly retarded

To me he clearly sucks.
You can see the lanes he gets and he's so slow he gets half the yards or less a faster back can get during the games. He is both slow and easy to bring down.
It is still his rookie season and only halfway through but If he stays in the dog house and it's possible to trade him in the offseason for a 5th or 6th round pick, do it. Cut your losses. Need to stop hanging on to guys when they don't work out.

Exactly. It's the webzone so we gonna come up with conspiracy theories instead of the obvious.

TH did. Made me feel slightly better lol
lol glad it could create a moment of optimism. I was speaking in terms of skillset. Meaning Banks and Sermon both excelled at inside zone based on their college tape, and that's what most zone read plays are. I can't predict how successful they'd be in the NFL, just that they were built for the between-the-tackles run game. Them not being able to get on the field, I don't think many of us saw that coming.
