I don't think Sermon is close to a bust. A bust is Seattles Rashad Penny. He was a 1st round pick! He's done absolutely nothing on what was a great rushing team. Sermon has some time to learn this offense and become a better pass blocker which is what I believe is keeping him from the field, besides his injury now. Hopefully this offseason is another year in pro football where he discovers what it means to be a pro player. I continue to believe he's gonna be a good one for us.

I agree. I'm still holding out hope for him. Not throwing in the towel just yet.

De Acuerdo. He's doing 4.1 yards average against NFL defenses vs. Mitchell's 4.8. That's not a bust in my book, specially if he can block and has the size and strength. I can see him (if he can catch passes) to be another offensive weapon a la Deebo and Juszczyk that can move around all over the place. Juice is making 7 milion a year on 3.5 yards rushing because he can catch and block and do all sorts of things. Still a very long ways away from calling Sermon a bust, specially if he's already shown some wonderful hands and some nice power running and tackle breaking.

I've told the whole forum this exact thing since he was drafted and had been ridiculed.

Really? Are you saying there were people here who disagreed with and ridiculed you for your take on our draft picks, even AFTER your brilliant in depth analysis and completely non-biased scouting report on Trey Lance?

Don't argue, he knows Sermon sucks cause he saw him play, but like Giedi said, he's averaging 4.1 YPC, Mitchell is 4.8 YPC, both are good, love how fans are so quick to call picks busts, then all of sudden they become something 2-3 yrs into their career, wonder why? Oh right, it takes time to develop.
Bad pick at the time; even worse 8 months later.

I'm not basing this on this years play. There is a lot of nuance that goes into scouting. A lot. From how the way guys are built, to how they bend and move, film, etc. I didn't say Sernon and Banks were bad after seeing them on Niners uniforms, I called it when we drafted them. Same way my Trey Lance takes arent based on his one start. I did take away how bad he looks in an NfL pocket from preseason and Arozona tho.

I really don't mean to call you out, but Sermon is def not a Swiss Army knife, gadget type player like those guys. He a classic running back with little lean and a high pad level. He's had some amazing games when he got going in college but had great clocking in them. He isn't fast or decisive enough to get the edge and is obviously too brittle to carry the load between the tackles.

Another s**t stain pick

Not a high ankle, but an ankle sprain. It didn't look good on replays.

i still haven't given up on this guy. He's done more and cost less than : Jet McKinnon, Hurd, Ford. I guess we stash him a few games and rotate more guys in. Mitchell's surprising development made us forget this guy.

Don't say that.. it's called " Brick After Brick " around here..

but you just don't know how good the guy is if he the only time he carries the ball is on the sideline..

At least Aiyuk looks like a good returner.
The front office knew what they were doing selecting 2 RB's last draft. They didn't want to get stuck signing guys off the street again.

Lost Mostert
Sermon on IR can return
Hasty has been out multiple games
Mitchell has a broken finger
Wilson Jr out for many games
Cannon is healthy but only special teams

Sermon isn't a bust. Too soon to get that status. He had to be taken where he did in the draft. That's why the draft is a crapshoot. It's where you think players are valued by other teams, as well as your own.

Sometimes you get an Aaron Jones in the 5th and a Jerrick McKinnon in the 3rd.

Just based on this year so far, sometimes you get an Elijah Mitchell in the 6th and a Trey Sermon in the 3rd.

Exactly. This system eats through RB/OL like no other. You need to be incredibly deep and versatile in both.

If a Jimmy G. trade ever happens, first thing I'd do with the draft capital would be either use that for a talented DE to bookcase next to Bosa, or trade down that pick for more lower round picks (possibly in the 5th round ) and just get more depth at OLine and RB.
