49ers release WR Marqise Lee

This signing to me means that WR3/4/5 are wide open and none of us have any idea who's the leader in the clubhouse. He at least has experience, which is more than some of the guys competing. But he strikes me as a very similar option to Ricki James.
The Jacksonville Jaguars made Lee a second-round selection out of USC in 2014. He missed the entire 2018 season after suffering a severe knee injury in the preseason and undergoing surgery. Lee last played in 2019 when he registered three catches for 18 yards. The receiver ended the campaign on injured reserve with a knee injury and was released on April 20, 2020.

Balke would be proud of this signing.

3 catches for 18 yards

Well, we kinda knew that before the signing too. It's definitely an area of concern, but it's not like there's not talent there. Just need to hope a couple guys solidify themselves (and of course that Aiyuk and Deebo keep progressing and stay healthy...)

I feel like Lee was a little more well rounded as a possession guy than Richie has been for us so far too.

We have a bigger receiving corps than 70% of the league, no one under 5'11". AZ for example avg 5'10" or less.

Three years removed from major knee surgery. If he's fully recovered then he's a quality WR.
Nice slot addition when healthy.

You know, any of the legit 6'4" red zone threats that are for some reason just sitting around without a team rn!!

Kelvin Benjamin. Nvm giants literally just picked him up yesterday and converted him to TE.
