because our current safeties are not that great in my opinion

IMO, Ward, Tartt, & Hufanga are locks, while guys like Harris, Mayden, Jefferson, & Wilson are fighting for 2-3 spots, Harris can play SS and LB, Mayden can play FS, SS, & CB, Jefferson & Wilson can play both FS & SS.

Yeah.

SAM/SS: Azeez Al-Shaair; Marcell Harris
FS: Jimmie Ward; Tony Jefferson [Tarvarius Moore]
SS: Jaquiski Tartt; Talanoa Hufanga

If healthy he absolutely makes it. He's the next best safety at either spot behind Ward and Tartt and some would argue (and it would be a legitimate argument) that he isn't number 3 between them.

Fair enough. But Jefferson isn't a box safety, so he'll be competing with Ward, Tarvarius Moore, and Jared Mayden. The way I see it we're carrying no more than 2 FS's. He's not making it over Ward. I don't see Mayden making it. That leavers Moore. So if he makes it if will be over Moore. Talent wise Jefferson is certainly better than Moore. But personally, I question Jefferson's health. And I predict that, given this teams relationship with injuries, this coaching staff isn't gonna be too patient with hope and injury. That's the reason, at this moment, I have Moore over Jefferson.

This is kind of how I see it. I don't see us keeping more than 4, maybe 5 Safety's. There are 3 locks. So the last spot will definitely come down to versatility, durability, and how Ryans is gonna scheme the defense.

You may have missed it but Moore tore his Achilles during OTAs.

How exactly do you see Moore beating him out?

You know, I didn't miss it. I totally forgot about that.

Disregard. I forgot about Moore's injury.

He better be ready for when Tartt gets injured. Glad he's entering the season with a chip on his shoulder.

Same exact thought. I wonder if Tartt is still currently injured. Turf toe? And Ward is Ward.

This kid is going to get plenty of PT.

This ^ Barring something very unexpected, I think Jefferson is pretty close to a lock. We've got fragile Safeties. Jefferson is coming off injury too. BUT I think he is really far removed form that injury and has something to prove.

Yeah, he's first off the bench for Ward and Tartt imo
Well, there goes this experiment. Hes going on IR. Anyone know if its season ending ?

Big bummer. I was pulling for him. Wondered if he and Wilson could both make it assuming Tartt, Ward, Hufanga were locks. When Tartt went to IR figured they would. Now suddenly we are thin at Safety. Hopefully Ha Ha still has something in the tank
