Wait...so if he exited the closet, then does that mean he's no longer gay?

Why not just go on with life being happy and private about these certain things ? To me it's like who cares if you're gay nowadays ?
But knowing ESPN, he's gonna win an espy for hero of the year award or something like that.

I really don't see a reason to come out and announce that you're gay unless there were rumors circulating that he just wanted to put to rest. He says it's for his own peace of mind and I guess if it makes him feel better about not having to hide it then so be it. Most people no longer care.

Unfortunately, those that DO still care are very vocal and disrespectful of those that are different than them. It is a powerful thing for a youngster that is struggling with sexual identity to discover that a professional football player is gay. It opens up possibilities that may have seemed unobtainable before then for kids that 'just keep it to themselves' and not disturb the sensibilities of others that push them to be silent, to be unnoticed, to make them comfortable in their discrimination.

To the people that have asked why he announced this:
It's about representation. It's for the gay or questioning teenage boy or girl out there in a small town or rural community to know they're not as alone in the world as they might feel; and that they can be successful in any field they want, just like any young person growing up should be able to feel. Hence why Nassib also made that large donation to a foundation that works on LGBT suicide prevention.
it's the same reason we see more LGBT characters, and more minority characters in media nowadays. IMO it's ultimately so kids know it's okay to be who they are despite the bullying etc they'll have to face. Just my two cents

Paul Pierce gets fired from ESPN for live streaming himself smoking weed with strippers, and this guy is going to get an award for "exiting the closet"
yeah, there's nothing wrong about that at all

Most normal people don't care.
America has millions and millions and millions of people who are not normal.

Explain?
you think Paul Pierce being punished for doing regular dude stuff was justifiable?
