You're missing John Hannah and Don Hutson for sure. Then you hit guys like Bart Starr, Dwight Stephenson and Ozzie Newsome who you could make an argument for as well.
This may be off topic but related NFL MVP is the dumbest award in history. QB is the most important position flat out and the award turns into a QB award each season. For example in the last 20 years 18 MVPs have been QBs. It's been either a QB or a RB since 1986.

No receiver has ever won the award yet a kicker has.

In 1987 people were dumb as rocks and gave MVP to Elway who had 3100 yards 19 TDs 12 INTs. Jerry Rice had 23 TDs in a strike shortened 12 game season and did not win MVP in 87. Apparently in 87 Montana split a lot of the Rice vote by garnering a lot of MVP votes himself.

The solution is to have a QB of the year award separate from NFL MVP which only considers position players. It would be like MLB with Cy Young and MVP split.

Ya but you can win the cy young award and MVP.

I hear you though. There should somehow separate QB MVP and League MVP. It's too easy to win MVP as QB for the reasons you stated.

I didn't think it was exactly 'dumb' to give the award to Elway that year. It's how you actually interpret Most Valuable Player.....do you go with the guy with simply the best numbers, or the guy who was most instrumental in their teams' success? Elway did shoulder a lot of the load for those Broncos, and without him they'd be a 4 win type team.

I think Rice was the true MVP that year.....he was so far and away the most dominant player. If it wasn't for the strike, he was on his way to around 30 TD's. In 1987 when passing wasn't the joke that it is today. He was just f**king rididculous that year.
