We need a vet DC who understands how all three levels fit together, not just a guy who will throw in an extra blitz now and then. Ryans doesn't understand coverage head games and we need someone who does. Can't wait 5 years for demeco to get the knowledge. Big disadvantage for us game after game. And it's not just missing our best corners.


Im assuming Mcdaniel is responsible for the erratic early season playcalling which forced shanny to go back and call all the plays. Not helping him be coach. Do we need a full time run game specialist as OC? I think someone with better sense of how to open up the pass game would be preferred, make all parts of the field chunk play eligible, as opposed to what we have now. Coupled with shannys open field running schemes we would set offensive yardage records for decades.

So you didn't know about Bettcher's hire or role and you incorrectly assumed McDaniel was calling plays.

I'm pretty sure you were singing the same tune with Saleh early on as. Ryans has done a damn good job considering the CB situation is an absolute mess(not his fault) and that the LB's have been shuffling in and out of the lineup all season, that Kinlaw is out for the year and for a first year DC he's done more than fine. Get him better talent and I'm sure he'll produce better results. No need for retreads dude, stop living in the past, join us all in the present.

Ed Donatell is old as f**k and hasn't been a playcalling defensive coordinator in the NFL for nearly 20 years, there's a reason for that. Even his pal Fangio isn't letting him call plays.

What are you basing that assumption on? He's never called plays. Shanahan admitted that trying to gameplan and call plays for both QB's threw off his rhythm as a playcaller. Pretty sure Shanahan has a good grasp on how to call run and pass plays, all he needs is someone to bounce ideas off of and McDaniel seems to be a very trusted ally that is also very well respected among his fellow coaches but because of some of his background issues, isn't likely to wind up as a HC which makes him a perfect OC for a HC who calls his own plays.

Bears is in need of a change. I really wish the 49ers were in need of a DC right about now, but no way Shanahan moves on from Ryans. And Mike Zimmer sucks, I'm surprised he's lasted this long as a head coach, would love to have him as a DC though.

Elway should have removed himself a long time ago. The broncos are okay, they just need a franchise QB.

Carolina perhaps. Then again, without a franchise QB, who would have performed better?

for coaches like him you really need the GM and OC to do a good job

I think he is still a good HC but Elway failed miserablly to get a decent QB on the team he is obsessed with trying to get a big QB and has failed at getting a competant QB
