They do it every year. Let good rotational line guys leave that get like 4-10 million a year. The omenihu, Hyder, dj Jones, Arden key guys.

Our high round picks get paid just as much like kinlaw and armstead and we waste picks on them.

Deebo is making 5-7 mill more than he should along with Warner. Basically at the expense of the line.

Will be sad to see him go.

Same as with Key last year. I hope he gets paid by someone and has a pile of sacks next year ( as long as they aren't against us!). We have been getting insane value from other teams' cast offs because we are the place where DL comes to prove they have it.

I am thinking (more like hoping) that we can keep two of three out of Ebukam, Willis, and Omenihu. All year long I figured it would be the latter two and that Ebukam would price himself out. An injury riddled year may have derailed all of that. We'll see. Hopefully Drake Jackson takes a leap. Id also like to find another Arden Key type and we certainly need another DT behind Armstead.

I'm not sure who factors into the plans longterm, but ny ideal/realistic 2023 D-line is

Bosa
Armstead
Davis
Jackson
Omenihu
Willis
Kinlaw (5th year not picked up though)
Rookie DT
FA edge (need another under the radar cheap pickup)
FA DE/DT (Arden Key type signing- Id like that pass rush threat from the inside)

The rest of the DLs, all good to keep !!

How's the rookie DT coming along ??

The two areas I'm not worried about is RB and DL as long as Shanahan and Kocurek are here.

Each year they seem to pull guys up off the scrap heap and Kocurek gets their absolute best. I hope they keep Omenihu but if not, I'm sure there's some talented, underperforming DL out there that they can buy low on and coach up, or continue addressing it via the draft.

Lol the funny thing is both those guys are arguably not even the best player at their position on the team.

Let alone in the league. They got paid what the market was I just do not think for the value they bring that's what they should get paid.

Would have rather had Buckner instead of deebo. Without deebo we are just fine and we always draft good linebackers.

We saw what the team did without deebo producing we were just fine. Same with Warner.

Omenihu will walk and then we will probably spend another high draft pick on the defensive line again. I just don't understand the logic of paying first round picks huge money and wasting a pick when you have a known producer walk for relatively cheap.

If It came to it I would resign the defensive line and get rid of deebo and keep McCaffrey. If it came to it.

There just more valuable then what he brings. Same with Warner. I'd trade deebo and bring Buckner back next year also if that was possible.

We need a real A-list edge opposite Bosa. A 400+ snap guy who will generate 8-12 sacks and 35 + pressures. That's the formula we originally had, and we still need it. We have to get pressure or our soft zone scheme is predictable, vulnerable. We wouldn't be talking about "lapses" if we had a a dee ford type taking snaps for us. The money piece makes free agent pick up impossible, so we should spend draft capital on it, instead of throwing it away on slow running backs and ambulance champs..

Sometimes when you think the world is wrong you need to ask if the world has the problem or…
I think if there's one in the upcoming free agents DL the 49ers will keep, it will be Omenihu. He's the most consistent, the most productive, I think the youngest, and the smartest in my opinion. He really likes to be here and he's well liked both by the coaches and fellow players so there's a good start.

Agreed, they're hoping Drake Jackson is that guy in a year or two.

Kyle's approach to DL is kinda like his approach to RB. They believe superior coaching and scheming will get them elite production out of journeymen. While it's true, there still another level they can reach if they add another elite guy.

Partially true. They still invest high picks into DL and RB, so its not all about the journeymen.

Being without Deebo is just fine when you are playing the Commanders, Raiders, etc.

It's not fine if you are serious about making a Super Bowl run. And after Deebo damn near singlehandedly carried us on that deep playoff run last year, something Buckner, as great as he is, has never done, I can't believe a trade like this would be suggested.

Totally agree. For me it's Omenihu and Willis. Replace everywhere else.

No high picks for the next two years though

We have almost all of our picks next year.
