Leftwich stands head-and-shoulders above all the rest of those guys. As a player, he did not have great talent so he had to learn HOW to play the game, not just rely on talent. He came up under Arians who is a great teacher and understands how things work. Everyone else is competing for third place.

I would take Leftwich over pretty much anyone else that's available. He has experience, worked his way up from the bottom, has experience calling plays and coaching and playing the most important position in the game.

The only question to me really is the kind of staff that he could put together, particularly on the defensive side.

Can't really blame Baalke on this one. Meyer did all the f**kups on his own. Not like Meyer did the winnings and Baalke undermined.

Meyer clearly isn't cut out for the NFL game and the warning signs were there early on. Dude lost that locker room in less than a season. Either he was trying to get fired or he's really just that inept as a pro coach because that team looked worse than Tomsula level. This might be Rich Kotite level bad.

I'm sure he'll get a nice settlement and eventually work his way back in at some college program.

It was worse than Petrino, and that's even factoring in Petrino straight up quitting on the Falcons
Meyer would do fine if you give him more than 1 year. Even win for. You don't bring in a coach for less than 1 year. That's clown show stuff. But it doesn't surprise me Baalke is failing again.
The situation in Jacksonville escalated quickly… oof.

Baalke didn't kick a kicker in practice or ditch the team so he can get a lap dance from a co ed at the bar he owns. Meyer dug his own grave all on his own.

You are assuming Baalke is the one who will make the hire here and I am not so sure of that. I believe Khan hired Urban, it was Khan who fired Urban and it IMO will be Khan who makes the call in the next HC.

I think Leftwich will get a look but I think the others are far more experienced candidates and have better overall resumes.

Caldwell over Leftwich c'mon man...

He's a has been retread with no history with the Jags. Somehow he had prime Peyton Manning, prime Matthew Stafford and went 2-4 in the postseason. Did basically nothing. Without Manning when he got hurt Caldwell got exposed 2-14. Currently Dolphins QB coach how's that going?

If I was a Jags fan I'd literally be organizing protests outside team HQ if they pulled crap like that.

You say Prime Stafford and Manning like either were known for postseason heroics. Before Manning went to Denver I think he had an identical postseason record to Donovan McNabb. As for the exposed part, most coaches look like trash without their starter. Furthermore, look at Detroit since he had left. Stafford never has 4 winning seasons as a QB. Three of the four were with Caldwell and they happened in a 4 year stretch. His lone Pro Bowl appearance was with Caldwell as coach. Jim Caldwell isn't the hot candidate but to be so dismissive in spite of the facts is interesting to say the least.

Who is on your interview list? If you were a Jags fan the protests should've been last year with that trash hire of Urban Meyer.

I posted that above. Byron Leftwich. Dude was the Jags QB in the day and is OC for the defending champs. Hire this man over some expressionless sideline zombie who was canned twice and keeps coming back from the dead and is now close to 70.

I like Leftwich as a candidate. My issue is this myth that Caldwell is chopped liver. He went 11-5, 7-9, 9-7 and 9-7. Where does that put him against all 32 teams over a four year stretch? Fact is, he's better than most. And the fact that it happened in Detroit, where exactly who has a winning record 3 years out of 4 in the last 60 years?

This is why I wish hot coaches could move around a bit more, meet more people, call in favors, etc. Easily the top NFL candidate but Indo wonder who he can get on his staff.
