Tom Brady: NFL should take hits on WRs' knees 'out of the game of football'

I think if we could take a few QB's that played when the rules were much more 'relaxed' that Brady's records would fall easily. Brady is playing in the era of "protect the QB". If he was playing in the 70's 80's or 90's he wouldn't be nearly as proficient as he is now, while some of those QB's from those times would be lighting things up.

Saints def targeted Godwin and Fournette.
Insane how the Saints kept tackling that way as well.

I'm pretty sure we could name at least 100 guys today who could play back in any decade. Can you imagine what Jalen Ramsey could have done back when you could grab and play physical? Nick Bosa gets held or double teamed every play. How's that any different from play in the 80's? You don't think a physical freak like Julio Jones in his prime could play WR in 1977? I think he'd beat the s**t out of those corners.
I think there's an argument to be made for padded stats. But to say Brady couldn't play with the likes of Ron Jaworski or Jim McMahan is crazy. And I don't believe for two seconds neither of Jaworski or McMahon, both starters for many years, could come in today and "light s**t up". Neither of those guys could throw with any accuracy. And if either of them were ballers like Marino, Elway…f**k it, even Jim Everett their teams would have let them throw 500+ passes in a season.

As if there are not enough rules for the offense. Every rule for 25 years has been changed to favor the offense.

Rugby has a general tackle zone, aussie rules has a general tackle zone.
Between shoulders and hips.
Head is too high.
Knees too low.
Both sports are fast, potentially brutal.
In NFL, it will just get challenging when receiver lowers their head/shoulders.

If they took that out of the game, Deebo would never get tackled.

Brady could play, and excel in any era....zero question about it. There is also no argument when it comes to numbers and championships and whatnot - he's not playing 2+ decades of elite QB play, and thus he ain't getting 7 SB's.

Brady worrying about knees!
Ask Joe Montana (the GOAT) about busted elbows and broken backs!

Players with big heads, long necks, long legs, and small torso are going to be the ultimate offensive weapons if they outlaw below the knees.
An alternative is get rid of passing if receivers need so much protection.
Only grass fields would help with injuries. Grass can grow indoors just like weed. In cold areas they can grow grass in another structure and move it in like in Arizona.

Lol not sure if serious or just joking.
What Brady has done in his career is the most impressive thing I've ever witnessed in my life watching sports. He is the Michael Jordan of football.
And he's also a petulant child, a cheat and an incredibly poor loser. His tantrums are downright embarrassing .
And the best football player of all time.
Not sure how you run a comparison between Brady and Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders, Lawrence Taylor and Ronnie Lott, for example. Perhaps you would care to explain? For myself, I don't think he is even the best quarterback and I certainly don't consider him anywhere near the best player.
I know you don't, but I assume you're a typical, biased 49ers fan. No offense, I get it... I could be wrong, though. I judge Brady based off of his resume, which is absolutely bulletproof... the numbers, the championships, the longetivity, toughness, leadership, respect from his teammates. He's 10/10 in every way you can grade a football player, not just a quarterback... and he's 10/10 at that as well.
I mention your perceived bias because Joe Montana is considered the GOAT to 49er fans, so when someone else threatens that legacy he is automatically overrated in their eyes.
Players can only be fairly judged against others in their era. I have no problem with calling Brady the goat of the current era but there's no doubt his numbers and maybe his longevity would have been much different if he had played in the 70s, 80s or 90s. Same with Montana. If he had played in the 50s when teams didn't pass as much and rules protecting players were even more relaxed, his numbers wouldn't have been as good.
Aside from the rule changes today, there's another thing that's helping QBs and WRs accumulate big numbers. The tacky gloves. There was a D lineman that made one in a game recently. I saw high school kids making one handed grabs. They even showed cheerleaders catching one handed. The effect on completions can't be underestimated. I'm sure there are a few passes every week that might be incomplete without those gloves.

They should just change it to "flag football". Feels like we're almost there anyway.

That ducks the question, sure enough.
To respond to the perceived bias, I don't give a damn who you think is the best qb. And I am not pushing my opinion on qb's. My question related to the comparison between players at different positions, which is actually damned nearly impossible. And that is without even bringing in comparisons between players of different eras, different rules. Which, in my view, makes comparisons and assessments of the best football player of all time, utterly meaningless.
