A little surprising. I've never been a fan of him or his draft big boards and I always felt he was more of a fan GM pick than an insider one, but he fielded competitive teams in Oakland. He did, however, make some really poor draft decisions.

Clelin Ferrell was a huge bust, Damon Arnette was a giant reach and a bust who had character issues, Ruggs... well, we know about him. Abram never panned out, neither did Hurst or Key who are both with us.
I recall Bill Polian he said the best among us bat around .575. In other words if you're right a little over 50 percent of the time you're doing good.

Polian was a 6 time NFL executive of the year who built the Bills who made 4 straight AFC Champs, built the Panthers from expansion first year to NFC Champ 2nd year, and his first move with the Colts was to draft Peyton Manning. In other words, he knew his stuff.

Just way to many variables with young men having to relocate, getting paid major bucks, the temptations that come with it. Some very talented guys flip off the switch once they get paid (JaMarcus Russell) and some let temptation get the better of them (Charles Rogers). Some the moment is too big for them like Mooch said about Gio Carmazzi.
They going after Adam Peters?
Back to NFL Network to be the draft analyst?

Competition for Daniel Jeremiah to get clicks?

Very surprising to me. There is a lot of talent on that roster and Mayock has set them up nicely for the future. They must have someone specific in mind for the head coach and they have to give that coach complete control in order to get them. Or at the very least a coach who wants to pick his own GM. Someone like a Harbaugh?
He was not good at his job. Not surprised he is out.

Not real surprising imo. Nightmare season for the Raiders. Even with the playoffs, it seems like a 10 year long season of Gruden, Ruggs, Arnette, Hobbs. Look at how many huge misfires. They brought in AB he didn't play a down that was a circus (and it cost them draft picks). A lot of his prime draft picks aren't on the team anymore. As I mention above I don't really fault Mayock a ton, draft is a guessing game, but in the end you own your results. Raiders want to start over. A lot of coach / GM situations are pairings. When Gruden got axed, Mayock immediately was at risk imo.
He drafted too many stupid players. You have to look past the metrics and draft character guys who want to win.

One factor in this is the franchise is in Vegas. Vegas is a city designed to provide temptation. I mean it's literally called Sin City. You put young men in this atmosphere with NFL sized checks...

TBH, I'm surprised as well and didn't see this coming. Evidently, Mark Davis knows
more of what happened in Vegas this season then was reported

Does the mean we'll see him -- once again -- at the 2022 NFL Draft at Allegiant Stadium 🤔

You make some good points. But IMO the Job of a GM is to put talent on the football field. I do think that team has good talent and has a good cap situation for the future. They made the playoffs after firing their head coach mid-season. They didn't get blown out in the playoffs either, it came down to the wire. I wouldn't have fired him. But I do get that sometimes when one of the head coach or Gm goes then the other a lot of time follows.

Thats why you especially have to go for high character guys in Vegas.
He did better than expected. It may be a huge mistake on the raiders
