If Shanahan thought Lance wasn't ready yet…if Brady did want to come back another season and wanted to come home to play for the team he grew up rooting for…if a trade could be worked out with the Bucs (Garoppolo involved? Both have same agent)…if they could make Brady's salary work while still re-signing their key guys…

A lot of "ifs", but if it could all work out to bring in the GOAT QB where you still have a strong roster throughout, I couldn't be onboard more in hoping it happens.

I'm about 10% expecting Brady to come out of retirement to finish his career with the 49ers and make one last run at SB. I won't be 100% convinced that he's retired for good until the season starts and he's still out of the game.

IDK but usually when high profile guys retire and they always say NO WAY they are coming out of retirement. The fact that Brady left that door open, makes me believe he is likely to do so if the stars align the way he wants. Those stars aligning are his rights being traded to a team that, like the 49ers, where he will be an automatic SB contender. Trade Garappolo to the Bucs straight up for Brady's rights. He comes out of retirement, we restructure his contract to open more cap space, and BOOM!

Really like the direction this thread has been heading these past few hours.

If Lynch has a brain at all, he would be sending little feelers out to Brady. Let him know that we are interested and willing to move heaven and earth to do so.

The biggest thing though is that a trade wont happen until after June 1st when the Bucs will only have to take a $8M cap hit. If they trade him before June 1st, they take a $30M cap hit. Either way, we would probably have to pony up assets due to the Bucs cap hit and we would only have to pay $12M for 2022. I think JimmyG and a 2023 2nd or 3rd would about do it.
