Brady and Gronk, salary cap?
Surely the cream of the draft picks would be going to Tampa. They are not going to just waive his contract. I really have grave doubts about the whole thing but it seems highly unlikely anyway.
Brady's reportedly worth $475m, and has a history of taking less than his market e to keep a strong team around him. That's how he's won so many Super Bowls. Let's do it on our terms. What's he want more, and handfull more millions, or an 8th Lombardi, with a third team? We need Samual, Bosa, and others. If neither Tampa nor Tommy want to look like jerks, offer Tom $1m, Tampa gets Jimmy, no more, (Brady's retired, remember?) take it or leave it, and see where the chips fall. If not, if Lance with Kyle looks like Herbert, we've still got a shot.
If we trade for Brady, which wont happen until June 1st (although there would be a gentleman's agreement way before), he would only cost $12M against the cap. That is super reasonable
I don't think reasonable in isolation is the point. Bosa's going to cost us $30m, Deebo $22m. Jimmy saves us $27m, which means we're starting off $25m in the hole before we even look at anyone else. Those contracts are for the long term competitiveness of the team to compete every year. The question is do we throw that away for a one year shot or not. Brady's 45 in August. I know he's been healthy, but... IMO, the way to win Super Bowls is to get a shot every year, like we did in the 80's, because in the NFL, sh!t happens.
Brady can have a good shot at winning 8 Lombardi's, and do it with 3 different teams. If he wants that, fine. If he wants another $11m on top of his $475m at the cost of our long term prospects, I'm for seeing if Kyle can make things easy for Lance. Either way, Lance is our future, and he's gonna need a good team around him.
Im sure Paragg can push Bosa and Deebo's salary into other years and we have a lot of other roster moves to make that will open up more cap space. We can save a good chunk of cap space restructuring Ward and Armstead's contracts. We can find a trade partner for McGlinchey and save another $10M. Releasing Ford after June 1st will save us $7M. Mack and Ebukam could both be cap casualties and save us $11M if both released. Lots of things we could do here to make enough cap space to absorb Brady's $12M, extend Bosa & Deebo, and make some modest FA acquisitions.
