Brady and Gronk, salary cap?

Surely the cream of the draft picks would be going to Tampa. They are not going to just waive his contract. I really have grave doubts about the whole thing but it seems highly unlikely anyway.

Brady's reportedly worth $475m, and has a history of taking less than his market e to keep a strong team around him. That's how he's won so many Super Bowls. Let's do it on our terms. What's he want more, and handfull more millions, or an 8th Lombardi, with a third team? We need Samual, Bosa, and others. If neither Tampa nor Tommy want to look like jerks, offer Tom $1m, Tampa gets Jimmy, no more, (Brady's retired, remember?) take it or leave it, and see where the chips fall. If not, if Lance with Kyle looks like Herbert, we've still got a shot.

If we trade for Brady, which wont happen until June 1st (although there would be a gentleman's agreement way before), he would only cost $12M against the cap. That is super reasonable

I don't think reasonable in isolation is the point. Bosa's going to cost us $30m, Deebo $22m. Jimmy saves us $27m, which means we're starting off $25m in the hole before we even look at anyone else. Those contracts are for the long term competitiveness of the team to compete every year. The question is do we throw that away for a one year shot or not. Brady's 45 in August. I know he's been healthy, but... IMO, the way to win Super Bowls is to get a shot every year, like we did in the 80's, because in the NFL, sh!t happens.

Brady can have a good shot at winning 8 Lombardi's, and do it with 3 different teams. If he wants that, fine. If he wants another $11m on top of his $475m at the cost of our long term prospects, I'm for seeing if Kyle can make things easy for Lance. Either way, Lance is our future, and he's gonna need a good team around him.

Im sure Paragg can push Bosa and Deebo's salary into other years and we have a lot of other roster moves to make that will open up more cap space. We can save a good chunk of cap space restructuring Ward and Armstead's contracts. We can find a trade partner for McGlinchey and save another $10M. Releasing Ford after June 1st will save us $7M. Mack and Ebukam could both be cap casualties and save us $11M if both released. Lots of things we could do here to make enough cap space to absorb Brady's $12M, extend Bosa & Deebo, and make some modest FA acquisitions.

if TB releases Brady then I'm interested

edit: TB won't label him retired or release him until June 1st for cap reasons.

I don't think he comes back, but if he does, it's definitely not this year.

If he wants to play for the 49ers this is his last possible opportunity (barring injuries).
As much as I think that Brady could win a SB with the 9ers, if Lance starts this year he is the starter moving forward.

Ya but we really don't know that. I think it's more plausible that if he unretires he just stays with Bucs.

And let's say that the Bucs do him a solid and give him his release, is he gonna come here and take a big pay cut? FO already announced they plan on extending Deebo and Bosa this offseason, and we have plenty of other guys to resign, while need help in the secondary and OL.

Personally, I just don't see it happening. Especially since we would have to wait until June 2nd.
Do I want the GOAT QB or do I want to see a project QB with a team that is ready to win a Super Bowl right now? Tough call.

Exactly. Its a total win-win situation if we get Brady. We win now and Trey gets more time to develop. I think Trey will get us into the playoffs but not super confident he can win us a SB in 2022

More time to develop lol....doing what? playing 3rd string QB scout stuff again? He's gotta play football at this point to actually get better at football.

They made their choice with Lance. Now it's time to play the kid and see what he can do. If he's the worst thing ever Brady will be sitting there waiting for the call in 2023.

Not if we look like dog sh*t and possible regression. A lot can happen in a year. The NFL is an act now results now league. 1 full year is like 1 week in the NFL
Bucs already got something out of Brady....A SECOND SB!

That poverty franchise owes him.

Trey is young. He can sit one more year. It's not like he would be sitting for any QB. It's the damn GOAT.

If trey plays 10-15 years (at least that's what we're hoping for) what's one more year sitting and learning for the best while the franchise gets #6.

If anything that would remove all pressure from him when he starts. As of now, a lot of people are expecting NFCC because we just got there with "trash" Jimmy. So his expectations are high right now.

Possible regression happens man, that was a chance they took when they went all in with Lance. If they have a less then stellar yr (which according to some is not winning a SB) BUT it helps with the growth of our young ass QB so be it. You gotta play football to get better at it, I don't know why people have such a hard time understand and getting that.

It's not step on the field and be great from day 1 in most cases. It's progress and improving.

So if Brady comes out of retirement and comes to the Niners, they could trade Jimmy and Lance. Maybe they get a second for Jimmy and 2 firsts for Lance. Then they draft Brady's replacement next season which should be a pretty good QB draft. I doubt any of this happens but it's a possible scenario if Brady wants to play here and if the Niners aren't all in with Lance.

Not going to trade Lance. The objective would be to trade Jimmy to them, therefore keeping them a contender in the division. We would get Brady on a potential 1-2 year loan to win a SB, while Trey sits behind the GOAT and learns. It would make us automatic SB favorites and give this loaded roster a chance to win number 6, and allow us to build for the future with Trey…

I'm not suggesting that tey would do any of this. First of all, I think the Bradsy to SF stuff is something to talk about during a week when nothing is happening. I believe the Bucs still own his rights so they would need to get something for him.

Second, I don't want a QB who'll be 46 next year holding back my QB of the future. What's Trey going to learn in one season from Bradsy. He's an entirely different type of QB. If they did get Brady that's another year sitting instead of playing.

I do not think you'll feel that way if this time next year we are NFC Champs and in the middle of the 2-week SB rest period. We will watch all the funny interviews and get to hear how Brady lived his dream. We will hear Lance clamor about all the experience he gained from Brady. We will win #6 and Brady will really retire after that. You will be happy

Literally SF would have lance for a yr in this scenario then have to talk about contract extensions lol. Told waste of a QB rookie contract, development, and if Brady only gets them in the playoffs most call that a waste of a season (s**t happens we just saw Brady do that). It's not a gtd Super Bowl win. Never is.

How would he have less pressure playing after Brady?

Or we lose in the playoffs like a younger Brady just did....you have no idea what would happen and anything but a Super Bowl victory makes next yr a bust with him as the QB. With out a SB It would be a wasted yr with him, another lost yr for Trey, and a lost yr to take advantage of his rookie contract. s**t ain't happening.
Do you also think Stafford and the Rams pissed him off? Maybe he wants revenge to ruin the Rams season next year

Disagree. If this was a young team on the brink of something big, I say we buy time as Lance develops and take those lumps and setbacks. But this is a team 2 years removed from a Super Bowl and 2 weeks removed from an NFCC game. You absolutely do NOT want your team to have setbacks at this point because the message sent is you're building for the future.

I'm sure Lynch and Kyle know this. This is why they were chasing proven quarterbacks for the past year. They know this roster is built to win now, and I think a FRESH Super Bowl victory buys everyone on top some years to build a strong team.
