If we cared about ammo and winning we could have spent the 3 first round picks we used on lance to give Jimmy more ammo and possibly won with him.
We could have had von Miller and obj and more with those picks.
Lance is not a proven commodity. Those 3 first round picks could be the biggest reach in history if he busts. The Brady investment is minimal when we basically will play here for peanuts.
It's nothing compared to what we wasted on kwon Alexander or dee Ford, even compared to what we are getting out of Fred Warner and his contract.
The whole mcvay not having to rebuild thing vs shanny is way overblown. He had Goff and Gurley whereas shanahan chose to role with hoyer and Hyde. Defensively we were just as good as them if not better, we still had Buckner, armstead, Thomas, reid, ward, and spoon.
None of either teams wrs are still on either team. That's just a cop out because the truth is mcvay has done better and had the same amount of time.
That's not a slight on Kyle it's just the truth.
They told us all from the jump they were about long term building and planning and wanting to build a dynasty. They didn't come here to try and throw everything at winning just one SB and then figuring the rest out as they went along.
They went and got Trey because they weren't getting everything they wanted from the QB position with JG. And they understand the risk involved, they also understand that it's rare for a top FQB to be had in FA or via trade with the ability to build around said QB for the long term. So you are going to have to potentially draft one to try and get what you want from the position.
Shanny didn't choose to role with Hoyer and Hyde, it's that he had to get guys who could help install and run his system, guys who could help with the cultural rebuild of the locker room and franchise. It isn't like there was all these studs to choose from or trade for right when he took over the team.
We were rebuilding the entire D with a rookie DC while they were retooling theres for a veteran Wade Phillips. Their roster was more akin to what Harbaugh walked into here whereas Kyle took over a dumpster fire. Kyle wasn't able to be hired til much later in the process than McVay due to the Falcons success that year, meaning he also had fewer top assistants available to build his staff right from the get go.
Not overblown at all, rebuilding a roster takes time to find the players who fit what you are trying to do. If anything what Shanny and John accomplished by rebuilding this roster is undervalued and underappreciated by our fans, nobody can point to another HC/GM combo who rebuilt 90% of their roster in 2 seasons and made it to a SB in year 3.
