There are a million ways to do it. Even if the owner doesn't directly tell the HC and offers him a bonus for losing, the owner together with the front office could come out with say a BS 4-year plan whereby the first 2 years has nothing to do with winning by keeping and/or signing crap players, so that you lose like nobody's business to get draft picks like what Hue Jackson did at the Browns. And the worst thing about it is? He took it up to the NFL and they never did jack about it.

So, next time the 9ers have a bad season, feel free to scream to tank! The owners and the front office are also human beings like us. None of us are stupid enough to say tanking doesn't make sense. Of course it makes perfect sense x a million!! The only question is whether it should be made illegal given it will break the spirit of competition, now that will be another discussion entirely.

meh tell that to the players who miss contract incentives because this tanking is human nature nonsense.
Hue suckass Jackson.

Imagine tanking for 2021 Tua Tuaguliaviaioauouuioua.

LOL. Fans don't care about that. If the roster sucks, fans want draft picks, they want infusion of studs and star players so that eventually the team can win and win big. Scrapping to win 1 or 2 more games in a hopeless season so that you will lose the No.1 overall pick for example is pure stupidity.

On a slightly different topic, I will also tell you what else is stupid, not taking a franchise QB when you have the pick makes zero sense. Just look at what ended up happening with the 9ers, so Kyle wasn't interested in mobile QBs such as Mahomes back in 2017, he then decided to proceed to work on the rest of the roster. In the end, the 9ers had to give up 3 x 1st and 1 x 3rd to get that franchise QB. That is simply senseless. Honestly? Kyle might have indirectly tanked by doing so. If Belichick didn't call him and offered Jimmy on a silver platter, we absolutely would have been at the basement for a few more years at the very least.

Ya, as much I don't like Goodell, that's not how it works. Unless it can be proved that Goodell knew about it and approved it...

This. It would be Ross that has to go. And Grier if it can be proven that he had any involvement in it.

this is some epic monday morning GMing. a bunch of teams passed on Mahomes. he wasnt the sure thing everyone now claims he was leading up to the draft.

it's time for fans like you to move on OR...

build a time machine, get hired into the Niners FO and make your argument to draft Mahomes.

A bunch of teams? How did you work that out? The Bears fxxked up by taking Trubisky, that's about it apart from 9ers not taking Mahomes. Mahomes went at 10 and Deshaun Watson went at 12. So, 2 teams missed and the 9ers was one of them, that's all you need to know.

The point is not just about missing on Mahomes, but the fact that he didn't draft a QB when he had the pick. Then, 4 years down the road, the 9ers had to suffer by totally selling the farm with 3 x 1st and 1 x 3rd to draft Trey Lance. You better hope and pray Lance doesn't bust.

As long as you don't tank for mediocrity like Jared Goff. No one is dumb enough to recommend that though

That is incorrect. The NFL is the biggest sport in America and it's not even remotely close. The all time most watched program is still the Super Bowl. In fact the top EIGHT most watched television programs of all time were Super Bowls.

Also my point has nothing to do with the moral merits of attempting to diversify NFL head coaching. That is a separate issue from the FACT that the NFL faces extreme scrutiny for PR mistakes of this nature.

I know all about ratings. And I already said it's the most most watched sport in the U.S. and yes we know about the other 8 games but much of the population in those big watch games are casual fans. Many probably couldn't tell you who is in the NFC West.

And this goes back to your argument that NFL is god and the country clings to its every move. Yes, if your a fan and I know I certainly do but to much of the rest of Country it's not as followed as much as you wanna play it off as.

Once again… media scrutiny. The only people that get more are prominent national politicians.

Isn't it the way it works? It's easy to pull a race card all the time it seems.

Here is an example. I am a hiring manager for a small department at my company. We are currently a start-up that is now ready to move into an IPO very soon.
I had an employee that left in December. An employee I inherited when I moved to the company.

I have a former employee who worked for me for 8 years at my last company. I am recruiting her bigtime and she is awesome and I want her.

Although I have pretty much made up mind I am required by HR to go thru a series of interviews to meet certain laws. So although nothing will stop me from going after Erika I will set up a series of interviews per HR requirements. This is at almost any company you go to. Even if you have a candidate in mind you must go thru a series of interviews.

This process is no different than the NFL. You typically like to hire a candidate with a proven track record and you have had visibility with your own eyes. Erika never received a lower performance rating below excellent. But I will set up a series of at least four interviews to satisfy company requirements. What happens in the NFL happens everyday at your own places of employment.

Does this make me a horrible manager or the company a horrible place to work? I think not.

It doesn't, it really doesn't.

Though you have personal experience with her, which could outweigh another candidate killing an interview.

What if you were just working from the recommendation of a fellow manager? What if you ignored a more qualified or better candidate?

What if you held onto Erika despite a long run of poor performance, you then replaced her and gave the next candidate a much shorter leash.
What if you then recommended Erika to a buddy of yours to give her a second chance, but bad mouthed her replacement.

Also, as a heads up, it's a really bad look to claim someone "is playing the race card"

Do you know what else is a really bad look? Playing the race card. I am curious why pointing out someone doing it, seems to be worse to you than the actually doing it.

People like Colin Kaepernick that fake and manufacture "issues", actually take away from real people that are experiencing legitimate racism. It's kind of like the boy who cried wolf, except it is affecting others, not themselves. I'm not sure if the Flores situation will end up being the same, but it certainly has a similar feel to it.

"Fake" issues? Kap was protesting police brutality against Black people, and a few years later we have several more national incidents, along with the Chauvin incident. "Fake…" He was proven unequivocally right, thank you very much.

Damn I really really hope Flores wins this and the result is an owner actually having to sell their team. It could scare other owners into taking actual accountability. Could make the league better in the long run. I'm personally indifferent about Goodell. He is basically the owners scapegoat.
