The offense was so bad some considered it one of the worst in decades, and McCarthy still got the Packers job. I can't believe he got an interview for the Packers job. No way would a black guy gets an interview with a resume like McCarthy had in 2005.

He got the job primarily because they wanted someone that could work with a young QB. McCarthy hadn't just been OC with the 49ers, he had been OC with the Saints and had worked with Aaron Brooks as well.

The fastest way to a HC job in the NFL has always been to be a QB aficionado. Every team wants a QB whisperer of their own and anyone that has experience working with them pretty much always has a leg up. Josh Allen balling out is the only reason Daboll has a HC job. He was dismal as OC in KC previously.

Ehh....Aaron Brooks flashed so briefly you could've missed it. That original point still stands. A black OC isn't getting interview sniffs after leading offenses that bad.

I'd throw Joe Judge in there- former Patriots receivers coach. I'm against hiring position coaches in general for HC jobs, but that guy's group in New England was the actual weakness in New England. Yet he's interviewed and hired. I thought Zac Taylor had a light resume. Fortunately for him the Bengals were bad enough in 2019 to draft Joe Burrow.

Adam Gase anyone? No real success in the Miami tenure, but hired immediately. We have Josh McCown getting interviews. How accomplished is he?

With the original poster's point about the Rooney Rule- it is a joke. In the spirit of it, I suppose the idea was to get some faces in front of these owners and thinking that maybe they can impress in an interview and that will open the door. I don't see it. And I'm not claiming there are so many glowing black candidates. Its more of, look at the quality of who is hired. Some of this stuff is baffling.

Bill bellichicks staff have always been in demand, Flores also benefitted from this.
I have a real hard time believing racism claims as it pertains to hiring coaches... imho. I don't even get it. If anything, owners want to win and make money and I don't for a minute think that a team would not hire the top coaching candidate just because he's black...unless said owners are gigantic racists.

Do you really think if Tony Dungy or Mike Tomlin made themselves available that every team needing a head coach wouldn't back up the Brinks truck? I just believe it's about who the owners/GM's really think are the best candidates.
I think it is clear that Flores was wronged in Miami and that he deserved to remain there.

He was a straight shooter with integrity and that was off putting to Stephen Ross.
Whatever happens as long as the Niners organization, does not get dragged into this, with some random text or email from the FO/coaching staff that gets leaked. I'm not saying there will be but nothing surprising me anymore. Just keep our heads down, and get us over the hump. Bang Bang!!

I don't get the racism part. What am I missing?

Your owner offering you a bonus to lose is not racism. Stupidity yes but racism

Hell most of our fan base want us to lose for a better draft position if we aren't making the playoffs. Are they racist too?

Read all of it.
Read through the complaint. Seems dumb.

Jan 27: Brian Flores

Daboll was hired on Jan 28

The Bill Belichick text messages are damning.

Really? Paying to lose? Deciding on the guy you're hiring before satisfying the Rooney Rule? Not a good look dude. You can say you disagree with the rules, but this is a bad look, and even if Flores et al. doesn't win, the NFL is going to come down hard on all parties accused if there is even a sliver of evidence. And with those text messages, there is more than a sliver.

I see EVERYONE is outraged & yet I have yet to see one good solution. Very few jobs filled where you go WTF when it comes to who a team is hiring. Ironically David Culley was one of those WTF hires. You aren't seeing these cant miss black coaches being passed over for average white coaches. I mean I guess you could hire an B- candidate who is black over a A- candidate who is white and black candidate could turn out to be better. Coaching hiring is kind of a crap shoot... But that doesn't seem like a good way to hire the person who gives your team the best chance to win. I think really the only solution is to start having teams hire more black coaches on the offensive side of the ball. Seems like most black coaches up for jobs are on the defensive side of the ball and we are in an increasingly offensive league. As for Eric Bieniemy, the rumors are he isn't interviewing well and might not have a great plan in place for his staff. Brian Daboll seemed like a lock last year to get a head coaching job and was passed over. Something has to be up other then just not hiring a black coach since we have seen many black coaches getting 2nd interviews this cycle & he hasn't gotten one interview.

We'll see what happens with Byron Leftwich but only the owners know why Bieniemy hasn't been hired. Also it's a trickle down issue, it's harder to get your foot in the door, therefore it's harder to be the new hot coach on the block, most of the prominent black coaches are former players.

If you just look at the Nepotism of the league you can see a disparity, fewer black Head Coaches means fewer black sons to get jobs from Daddies friends.

The league is trying to change, the rewarding of draft picks is an interesting incentive to hire and develop young black talent.

David Culley was an image rebuild attempt from ownership, and actually projects towards the other side of this, keeping a job. Black coaches just seem to have a much shorter leash.

I also have a big problem with the bolded. No black person has ever wanted a handout, the reason for positive discrimination is that something needs to happen to combat discrimination.

All anyone has ever asked is to be treated equally.

The Problem is when your players are over 70% African-American and you currently have one African American Coach what does that say about what you think of them. Explain how Eric Bieniemy doesn't have a job yet. You can say he isn't interviewing well but Adam Gase who showed he was a terrible coach gets another job. Like I said earlier the optics are really bad. Your workforce looks one way and your management looks another.

Andy Reid is the play caller.

I respect you as a poster, however that's clearly incorrect. Bienemy had the play sheet to his lips all game Vs the Bengals, and Andy Reid only ever spoke on key downs.

Also Nagy got his opportunity from the same setup anyway.

There could be many reasons Bienemy hasn't got a job, but that isn't one of them.

Explain how Pete Carmichael doesn't have a job yet. He's been OC in New Orleans since 2009. In that time, the Saints have had 8 Top 10 offenses. Dude's been coaching in the NFL for over 20 years yet I don't hear any particular outrage about him not getting a head coaching job, even though he's been an OC nearly three times as long as Bieniemy.
