Other than Kittle, there has been little apparent development in any of the other TEs on the roster. What we have are some guys hanging around to block but almost no other role in the offense. Is that by design or lack of development?

Hopefully we get one that will get Kittle more involved in the damn gameplan aside from just staying in to block. I can't say for certain if that's Kyle or if it was Jimmy just not looking his way but something needs to change and Kittle needs more freaking targets. It's a joke how underutilized he was

Pretty much this.

Kittle staying in to help block 50% of the time.

"DAMNIT, why isn't Kittle getting the football more often?"

1. He wasn't the worst.
2. @Phoenix, I know he stayed in to block and acknowledged that.

There's other ways to help out the RT to get Kittle the ball more. I know both of you know this. Chips, shifting the RB to that side etc… We going to pretend that we the only team in the NFL with pass protection issues? That's such a weak excuse to not utilize Kittle who's one of the best in the NFL in the passing game more often. Just my opinion. If you guys are fine wasting him away as a blocker "50%" of the time, I simply disagree

He was the 53rd ranked OT in PBLK at the end of the year. Dude was butt.

The argument was never whether Compton sucks or not, just that I think Kittle wasn't utilized in the pass game enough. Let's see 53rd ranked, there's 32 teams and 2 Tackles playing, I'm no mathematical guro but 53rd would not be the worst

Yes he's butt as is Mcglinchey
Penny pinching York's strike again.

Lol but I should believe Lombardi? Everything he says is grain of salt for me. Look, I ain't denying that Compton sucks and absolutely is among the worst, as is Mcglinchey IMO. All I'm saying is that there are other ways besides Kittle staying in to help the RT pass protect and that I think he wasn't utilized enough, especially in the playoffs

Here's a way to simplify things....get a right tackle that doesn't suck at pass blocking.

Kittle ran the 14th most routes this yr among TEs (487), he was 2nd in the league in RBLK snaps (449), and 9th in PBLK snaps (70).

BINGO!!!! The 14th most routes this year among TEs is absolutely pathetic and a waste of his talent IMO. If people think that's "plenty" I wholeheartedly disagree.

Kyles run heavy offense does play a big part in that as well.

Kittle having to constantly block DEs and LBs took a toll on him physically. Yesterday he said he had been hurting since game 1 this year. I have to believe that running more routes and throwing his body at fewer 300 pounders is going to extend his career. Bring in a new OL coach who can teach McGlinchey how to pass block and...problem solved.

He also missed what 3 or 4 games? Plus SF was 5th in overall in rushing attempts and 29th in passing attempts this yr. Sure I would like Kittle to get as many routes as Kelce gets, but overall SF is a run first team and he happens to be a monster in run-blocking.

SF was damn near last in passing attempts this yr, so I wouldn't expect him to have as many route snaps as guys like Kelce and Pitts.

McG actually graded out just fine as a pass-blocker this yr. He wasn't elite but 70 overall is pretty good. How he recovers from his injury will be the issue. Our RG issue is the problem more than anything.

True. I don't know man maybe I'm just still pissed off from the playoffs. I just want something done to get the ball in Kittles hands more like how Deebo was made a RB to accomplish that. Kittle is too much of a stud to be wasted pass blocking all the time. Just my opinion

Kittle had 850 yards receiving with 3 games to play & seemed like a lock for 1000 yards. In those 3 games he had 8 receptions for 60 yards. I don't care what the reason is... That CANNOT happen.

Absolutely. The Niners typically don't pass as much a sother teams. Only when the run is stopped do they go pass heavy.
Was any reason given for the team asking him to take a 60% pay cut, assuming that was true. The team isn't cheap. They pay coaches and front office people well. There must be a reason they would ask him and not other coaches to take a cut. Or did they ask others as well.
