I like it. Kind of takes away from the mentality:
Heave the ball downfield, if you catch it, kick the field goal, ending the game.
Heave the ball downfield, chances are, you'll get a PI, and kick a field goal, ending the game.

The game ended on a TD last year not a FG. If you only kicked a FG the other team got a chance to tie or score a TD.

This. It's really that simple. If a team possess the ball for the entire 10 minutes and kicks a FG as time expires I dont think people would complain.

I've never walked away from a college football overtime ever. I once watched a 7 OT Western Mich v Buffalo OT cuz I stumbled upon it and could not take my eyes off the proceedings despite having no interest in either club.
CFB has completely figured out the OT problem and NFL keeps suggesting clown "solutions" that make zero sense and are flawed. Just adopt the college model. It works.

Last years OT was an extra quarter but if a team scores a TD on the first possession of OT then the game was over. After the first possession if there was no points scored then the next points win the game. It emphasized teams going for a TD on the first possession as a FG wouldn't end the game anymore as it would with old rules.

About damn time. I think they should make it so the game keeps going as long as both teams score until one of them is stopped, but hey, that's just my opinion.
NFL owners approved a modified overtime rule for postseason only, ensuring both teams get a possession, per source.

Not a fan, I preferred the sudden death, next score wins rule
That will be after both teams have had their initial possession, is my understanding. If both teams still tied (0, FG, or TD), it switch to sudden death.
I'm not a big fan of it either. This now gives the team playing defense first an a slight advantage.
I think the best rule for this would've been to leave it as it is, but the home team gets the ball first. In the playoffs, home team gets the ball first, in the SB, the team with the better record. Rewarding the best team isn't a bad thing.

The home team doesn't always have the best record.
Imagine giving the 7-9 Seahawks the ball first over the 11-5 Saints because they were the home team.

No it isn't. You just created more probs than you solved.
Every OT suggestion I hear is worse than the one before. If only we had some interesting OT format out there proven to work:

Just have the PK kick FG's until one misses.starting at the 45 yd mark. Like penalty shootout

I'm fine with that being changed as well, never liked division winners automatically getting a higher seed. But until then I think this is the best way and gives advantage to a home team, like it should be, and in most cases also rewards having the better record.
